I just wanted to vent about the situation Im in. So I graduated nursing school with a 4.00 and was blessed with an awesome job lined up in the first unit of my choice in the first hospital of my choice, passed the NCLEX accor to Pearson Vue and cannot start work because my school is lagging on the transcripts.
Mind you, I graduated in mid December. Im not sure how long it takes for someone to put my official degree into an envelope and mail it.
Im just feeling a little out of control here because I feel like I was responsible and did everything I could to get my license on time, but my slow school is actually going to make me lose my job and is costing me hundreds of dollars each day because they havent sent out my transcripts so my license number can be issued. (The hospital wont accept interim permits)
The best part is, I call my nursing school to inquire about the progress (in a polite, non-blaming manner) and am met with the typical condescension and rude phone etiquette I have experienced through out nursing school. I cannot wait to be rid from this place. The lady had no idea when the transcripts would be mailed out even though they were officially released last week. I understand that the nursing department may not be solely at fault, but how come it is always my school that infringes upon my inalienable rights and causes me heart ache and sleepless nights?
I tried to solve the problem my self and asked if I could pick up my official transcripts and send it on my own but the office person said they must all be sent at once from the school. This sounds asinine to me.
Throughout this whole process I have notified my employer and volunteered to do online training and preparation beforehand but Im just not sure how long this job will wait when I've heard that more than 3000+ are vying for the position. And if I lose this job, no new grad programs will start until summer and I cannot go that long without work and God only knows if a job will be available for me then.
I've also heard that in California (where I live) there is another 3 week wait after transcripts are released. I was supposed to start my job a week ago. Although Im enjoying the time off and break, Im going crazy over the idea of losing my dream job and not being able to do anything to stop it.
I hated my disorganized nursing school while I was in it and now they are driving me insane even after graduation!
Do you have any words of encouragement or ideas to help? Or how about just join in in bashing my school?
I was told the same thing that the transcripts must come from the school, but many people that I have graduated with said that I could take them straight to the BRN and hand deliver it as long as it is an offical transcript. I was also told that there is a people or a case manager that you cna speak with and when I asked the operator she was very rude and said there was no such thing even though many class mates of mine said thye have talked to theirs. I was not once at all hostile or rude to two of the operators who were very rude and not at all helpful. they told me it would take 2=3 weeks to get my transcript looked at but yet people I graduated with their transcripts were mailed out on the 21st of december and received their results on the 28th. And when I asked how that was possible the operater one of the rude ones told me that oh thats impossible. I really want to talk to my case manager but by them telling me there is no such thing but hearing there is from people who I trust with my life sounds kinda weird. fiveofpeeps have you taken your NCLEX already. Cause I too have already taken mine but they wont release any info until they get the transcript but mine was sent out last week and I live many 30 miles from Sacramento and I knwo they ahve it by now and the rude operator told me, "Oh well its probably still sitting in our mail room" but yet they could process 65 other students that I graduated with in 4 days but now their telling me 2=3 weeks. Doesn't seem right to have to make us sit here and wait and be rude to us when all we want is a simple answer. I too was told that I couldn't bring my transcript in but when I eventually talk to my case manager which I am pretty sure there is one I will ask because no matter if it comes from the school or my hand if its an offical transcript it doesn't matter. I just don't want them to go and take it and throw it in the mail room where my other one supposedly is.
Again, I advise you to just cool your heels and stop panicking.
I realize that you are in hurry to secure this job, but you need to be careful that you don't step on the wrong toes.
The best thing for you to do at this point is to contact your prospective employer and let them know that you are waiting for your school to send transcripts to the BRN.
Most employers will realize that this is out of your control and if they want you working for them they will wait for the school and BRN/BON to complete their processes.
Hey I just called and talked to the BRN and they said you can hand deliver it as long as it is sealed and official which is weird because 3 other operators told me I couldn't but this one said I could and she said it speeds up the process really fast because they told me it takes 2=3 weeks to process if you mail it but if you drive it there it goes straight to your evaluator.
thanks for letting me know. that sucks tho because my school finally sent it out today. I wish I had known. Those operators man!
well I did talk to my employer and she was amazing and is holding the spot and Im so excited and relieved.
Im gonna call my evaluator on Friday (when the mail should have arrived) to see if he/she can pick it up from the mail room so it doesnt take as long.
Good luck with that mine has been there for 3 days and they said it hasn't left the mail room so I'm driving mine down to the BRN tomorrow because they said it takes 2=3 weeks to get from the mail room to the evaluator. And I was told by two operators that there is no such thing as a evaluator so they wouldn't transfer me to mine and I still have no clue who mine is so I don't know who to give it to.
