I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?
Hey guys!
I am soo nervous! My grades were not the best. I graduated with a 3.0. But since I transferred, my cumulative is like 2.7. I know they look at more than GPA, but that is on the very low end. I am almost done with my science pre reqs, I am taking AP 2 next semester. I completed AP1 this fall, but need to pay my balance to release my transcript. I will have it paid over first week of January to update my Science GPA for my application, but is that too late?

It’s really tough to say. I got into Vandys PMHNP program with a 3.8 cumulative GPA and 3.7 science GPA, however at the time of the application due date my anatomy, physiology, lifespan development, and Microbiology grades were still pending because I took them in the fall of my senior year. I submitted my new grades at some point in the Spring semester but after I had already been admitted in February without those grades in so I think they used my GPA trend from my whole undergrad to predict if I’d do well in these classes. I also didn’t submit GRE scores because I didn’t think they were that strong— did you submit these, and what kind of healthcare experiences did you have? I believe they do a holistic review, so don’t worry too much about one part of your app!

Oh wow! I will keep this in mind as we get closer to the final countdown. Thank you for this insight.

I did not take the GRE. I do have some healthcare experience; interned in an OR and adult daycare in high school and I am currently working in a pathology lab. My first major was actually physician assistant in a special 5-year program that Howard University offered, but I transferred due to financial reasons. I found out after that the school that I transferred to did not have an accredited nursing program, so I ended up graduating with a psychology degree. Hopefully, my experience and resilience outweighs my GPA!

It looks like the increase was seen mostly in people who already hold a BSN or MSN. Mostly in emergency care and psych. As we get closer, I’m getting antsy and am searching for any literature I can find on the program. Thanks for the link!

Thanks for finding that! This is such an interesting topic of why more people are applying now.

Hey!
I think you'll be fine; push comes to shove, if the payment didn't go through in time for the priority cohort, you will be considered for the rolling admissions cohort. While they do place emphasize on the former, there are still students who are accepted from the rolling admissions cohort. They'll likely get their decisions in March as opposed to mid February.
