I noticed there was not a thread created for Vanderbilt pre-specialty nursing for 2021, so I created one. Is anyone already preparing for this upcoming application cycle?
I just discovered this program and it is perfect for me! I have my ASN/RN along with over 120 credits from a bio/psych BS degree that I never finished.
I want to apply for the prespecialty track but I could potentially earn my BSN elsewhere by the end of next year. I want my MSN as a PMHNP more than anything, but I still would like a BSN after that prespecialty year, just to show for it. I plan on attending an informational session next month. Does anyone know if a BSN is awarded to those with either BA/BS in another field or ASN/RN students??

Hello,
After completing the PreSpecialty program you will receive a MSN, but not a BSN. The MSN is available for both ASN/RN students and those with a BA/BS in another degree, the requirements would just be different for admission.
I just got the info from the website; hope it helps!

What is the expected format for next fall or if we’re not sure yet, what date will we know more? I am trying to figure out if it is necessary to move to Nashville during the prespecialty year and how students this year handled it with the pandemic.
Current Vandy student here. I can only speak for the fall semester of the PreSpecialty year.
We had lectures online on Monday and Tuesday. On either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday you have your clinical day in the hospital and another day is at VUSN in their skills simulation lab. You’ll have one “free” day off, but you’ll have enough work that you’d want to be productive on that day. This schedule changes slightly about a month and half before the semester ends. We had our clinical in-person these last few months. All PreSpeciality students live nearby.
Any other questions?

Thank you! Do you guys have any idea what the format will be for the Spring at this point? Also when do incoming students start looking for housing/roommates (any suggestions are appreciated!)

No problem. As of right now, it's the same format as the fall with lectures online and clinicals in-person.
I was told to start looking for housing quickly, but this year was also a unique situation with covid! I ended up signing for a place in June. I believe there's facebook groups available for the roommate search.

Yay! Did you guys apply to any other schools? How are you feeling about everything?

yes I applied to a few other schools that I’m waiting to hear back from as well! I’m nervous because it will be silent until the decision and because I don’t really know anyone who attended the school which could have been insightful (though the open house was information!). How about yourself?

@Psych99143 Hey!
So definitely not a Vandy student (yet, hopefully LOL) but I hope I can share somethings that can help! At the very least, this'll boost the forum so maybe a current Vandy student can answer.
At the Open House back in October, they said they were back to face-to-face clinically.
I think we'll still need to move to Tennessee. I can only really speak for midwifery, but the director was still adamant about how we should probably get a 9 month lease.
I think, even before the pandemic, they did a mix of online and in-person format for lectures. Can't say anything about the labs though.
If you want to talk to current students, you can go to the Open House website. Just search up "Vanderbilt school of nursing open house" and it should be the first link. There, they've listed the emails of some current students. If no one replies to you here, maybe you could email one of them and ask any relevant questions. All else fails, you could email Paddy Peerman and ask too.
Hope this helped!
