Vanderbilt Nurse Residency winter 2011 cohort

Published

Figured I'd start a thread for those of us applying to the Vandy nurse residency program for 2011 to share thoughts, feelings, questions and to network with eachother a bit.

I'm Duluth! I'm a new grad with a previous degree in Biology. I'm applying for the Adult Critical Care track, with hopes of matching to Trauma or Emergency Services.

Congrats JWPRN!!! That is so exciting!!

JWPRN,

Looks like Vandy won you over!! Im glad to hear, I think between Georgetown and Vandy, you can not really go wrong but Vandy's program is cool because we get to rotate through and see all the units!

Congrats!

Samwestonpotter: There are four of us in the NP program living in Jeannie Apartments on Sharondale. It's 15 min drive to campus, small, older, clean, QUIET, very safe neighborhood. $650/mo for 2 BR 1 BA. Mrs. Wood, landlady lives next door. If she has an opening I'd definitely recommend giving her a call. Good luck!

Specializes in Family Practice, ICU.

Cool, thanks! Hey, about the NP program at Vandy... are you all doing it full time? Is it doable to do the full time NP program and work full time? I'd be interested in it if that is possible.

Congrats to you all! I am just about to start my ABSN program in January, but the year will be over before I know it, and I have my sights set on Vandy. Do you know how many applicants they get each year for the residency?

Not sure. I've heard as many as 300-500. Don't let that scare you, though. I highly recommend applying. I gave it a shot, and am so glad I did!

I was accepted into the adult critical care track! I will be moving from NYC with my cat probably around the last week of January. Ideally, I'd like to live with female roommate(s) in an apt or group house near Vandy.
so vanderbilt hire out of state workers? do they pay your housing

How long were you guys letter of intent? I'm in the middle of applying for 2011 and want to make sure my letter of intent isn't too long or too short.

Mine was just a short essay format. I had an introduction, and had three reasons why I would be a good fit for the critical care internship. I then did a short paragraph on each reason, and then a short conclusion. It was about a page, and I think I hand-wrote it on the form.

Best of luck to you!

Unless you plan to go part-time, don't plan to work; when they say accelerated, they mean it. They usually post a housing group for newcomers who are accepted. No graduate housing available, you're on your own. good luck.

That's cool, thanks for the info. If I wind up doing it, I'm going to go part-time. I'd like to accumulate the RN experience while I do it. It's only 2 years part time, not bad.

JWPRN

I was accepted into Georgetown's Residency program for this summer and just interviewed at Vanderbilt this past week. In looking ahead and being optimistic, if I were to get Vanderbilt's as well, I'm considering which one I would prefer. I'm wondering what considerations were deciding factors for you in picking Vanderbilt over Georgetown. Thank you!
