Figured I'd start a thread for those of us applying to the Vandy nurse residency program for 2011 to share thoughts, feelings, questions and to network with eachother a bit.
I'm Duluth! I'm a new grad with a previous degree in Biology. I'm applying for the Adult Critical Care track, with hopes of matching to Trauma or Emergency Services.
I got accepted into Adult Medical!!!! So blessed and overwhelmed! What an experience thus far! Can't wait to move and meet everyone and start this AWESOME chapter in my life! I will be graduating the first of December and will then be searching for a place to live. Would love to hear feeback about where others are looking! I actually have several friends that live around Nashville so I will be seekING advice from them...I will repost what I find out! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
I'm even fine with commuting up to 30 minutes to Vandy if it is cheaper and safer. It's really hard to tell from online reviews of apartments what the real story is, as some have good experiences and some have bad. For the first six months or so I want to just get as affordable a place as possible, because I'm not sure what paychecks are going to be like.
Are you guys taking the NCLEX in your home states or in Tennessee? I'd like to get mine done here in Utah if I can get it done before the moving week. Utah and Tennessee are both compact states, so I think doing either is fine.
I took my NCLEX here in Colorado which is also a compact state. I think either way, you will be fine but taking it earlier may help with less stress before you move.
I agree, the online ratings seem fake at times and are never positive. I am thinking of taking a trip to Nashville to check some places out vs. finding somewhere online.
Emilymkr,
the interview was extremely laid back. not at all like the one for Vandy. I met with the nurse recruiter first who explained the benefits of working at georgetown and then i interviewed with the nurse manager and educator of the SICU. The hospital is extremely nurse oriented and it seems like a great place to work. I still think Vandy has a better residency, because you get to rotate through different units. I got waitlisted at Vandy, but Georgetown is my second choice.
I think I am going to plan on moving sometime mid January. Also about the NCLEX...I have to take it in Tennessee because Georgia is a non compact state. I hope this doesn't delay me being able to take it. They said that they can't even process the paperwork until after I graduate in Dec. Does anyone know when we should hear more about our first week and everything?
I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and starting our careers together!!!

Hi Newnurse3, I just interviewed yesterday at Georgetown and it was pretty awesome. They have great benefits and also pay for relocation expenses...DC is a cool town too.
