so my graduating class just found out who will be representing our class as valedictorian and it's a student that was caught cheating on an exam. she was caught on camera and later admitted to the cheating. I feel someone like this should not represent our school or class as a valedictorian. It sets a bad example that cheating will be tolerated. there are many students that sacrifice so much for nursing and this bothers me that someone like this would be honored. she was caught once cheating but there could be other times she cheated and didnt get caught. I addressed this issue with administration. Please give me your opinion about this. Am I over thinking this?
My opinion is this: If she received a zero on the assignment and went through the disciplinary process and had her transcript noted and she is still the valedictorian? Then that is all they can do.She has probably been cheating through the program and finally got caught. Trust me, it will be self-correcting because all she will be cheating is herself.
...and good luck trying to get a job with that on your transcript. It's no new grad I would hire, that's for sure.
While I absolutely agree with your sentiment, I've have never, not ever, not ONCE heard of anyone having to produce a transcript when applying for a job. Proof of degree? Yes. License number, and verification? Absolutely. But a transcript of grades? Nope.
The fact that she is graduating is a crime in and of itself. The fact that she is being honored in spite of having demonstrated unethical and immoral behavior is a black mark the school should be ashamed to wear. Truly, shame on them!
That confirms it. She's sleeping with someone. I say it's time to call in the media and expose this mess to the public.
After learning that there's a scholarship on the line I changed my mind, this should be exposed and not be allowed to proceed. Is she sleeping with someone? Well that's just taking it too far unless you meant it metaphorically :)
I've seen lots of transcripts. None have had notations about misconduct of any sort on them. They showed grades, GPAs, majors, minors, degrees, and that sort of thing. The other gobbledygook goes into students' academic files, that aren't available to the public.
OP, awhile back you said there was a meeting coming up where you and others would be talking about the issue. Has it happened? What was the outcome?
I think OP mentioned that the meeting would be Tuesday, after the holiday. She posted this morning and I think she indicated that the gal will still be valedictorian WITH the scholarship.
Now on to some Plan B. I still like everybody standing up and turning their back to her. Of course, the press needs to be present.
Another poster mentioned that 'wee madamoiselle' would prob move on to a DON position. She would have to have some nursing experience for that and I don't see that occurring. Nope - she'll likely move on to that higher upper echelon of rarified top management like CEO,COO, corporate president, etc. (with or without the nursing license). Yes, NCLEX is still to be accomplished but I do see her going into graduate education. So maybe she'll just change directions somewhat and move into an MHA/MBA. I think she'll have all her game Monopoly duckies in place and with some pull from somewhere.
You know, I still find it hard to believe that the school would jeopardize itself for what is believed to be a 'cheating scandal'. What's to say their investigation of that 'cheating video' turned out to be something else (exactly what I can't fathom). They DO NOT have to make the student body privy to its investigative and disciplinary actions, and they might just be playing 'hardball' just to maintain its supreme authority.
Almost everyone on this post is seeing the same side of this story (MYSELF included). I just wonder if there might just be one itty-bitty, miniscule snowball's chance in Hades that she is legit and we've all been bashing her.
I dunno .... mea culpa if wrong.
Am just seeing the post ahead of mine. Am starting to wonder too.

Consider this your first then. My first job out of nursing school at the affiliated university hospital 3 years ago required a copy of my official transcript for interviewing, and one notating my degree conferred (in addition to license certificate and proof of BLS completion) after I was hired. I don't know how much my GPA weighed in on the hiring process, but I do know that an official transcript from the university was one of the required documents for HR before starting on the job.

Focus on yourself, pay attention just to your grades. I had this situation while at school, I was born in post USSR, spy was burn on fire.We always help each other at school and I will do it ,if I feel like. one American student was thinking part of group had test, cuz our Don was russian speaking as me, and I did good 80,88%, just 2 years in this country, how foreign student can do better than American, impossible, yes very much possible , on my example. But then at the end of program I pass HESI with 982 , jealousy never appreciated. And please don't create drama, it's so distracting , takes time from your life and studyin . So good luck, I had spent on studying 60h a week whole 15 month.and that person at the end of program asked to forgiveness.bull .
The end result to this the girls name was listed as valedictorian on the ceremony board but at the last minute she refused to go up there and give her speech because she knew everybody was going to stand up and turn around. she didn't speak to anyone or look at anyone she sat in the seat the whole time and when they called her name for her diploma no one boo'd or made a scene we just didn't clap. glad it's over. I enjoyed my graduation I don't know about her
