Vaccination for clinical

Hey all,

I just got accepted to the nursing program at my school. I've been there for about year doing the pre-req's and got accepted for Summer entry!

Part of the requirements clinical is to get all my vaccinations up to date and a TB test.

I'm not a believer in vaccinations. I filled out the paper work to attend college in the first place without getting vaccinated. At the time they called it a religious exception, so while that wasn't the reason I went with it because they didn't ask any more questions.

I'm just not interested in being injected with all the extra crap in the vaccine. The preservatives, the mercury and all the other junk. The high levels of failure of the vaccine as well as the toxins in the vaccines.

This is not a discussion about vaccines and anti-vaxers... this is about my clinical application to nursing school. I understand the hospitals want it because of our exposure to patients but I simply don't want that crap in my body.

Is there a way to get out of the vaccinations for my clinical?

Again no debate on why... I just want to know about possibilities to still enter my clinical without the vaccines.

Thanks,

John

I know how to get around it.

Don't attend nursing school.

There, opinion successfully kept to self.

Good luck with that quest...

...and rethink your choice of profession. From what I understand, healthcare education is centered around evidence-based practice and science. The scientific community generally accepts the value and necessity of vaccinations. Did you not take microbiology?

No. My mother refuses to get the flu shot (she prefers to use evidence-based prevention strategies like swabbing the inside of her nose with Listerine) and when she wanted to volunteer to play the piano in the lobby—no patient contact—they made her wear a mask. That’s flu (droplets) but there isn’t anything similar you could do to prevent airborne or bloodborne transmission.

Unfortunately, you will face an uphill battle. Poster who stated to obtain titers is right on - spend the money and see if you have immunity to any of the diseases.

If not, you might not be able to go to clinicals and thus fail out of nursing school. I will tell you too that most hospitals and facilities make a yearly flu shot mandatory and in my area you are not allowed to wear a mask - you MUST have the shot or you are fired.

Having recently been in school and working at a hospital part time there is no way not be be vaccinated. You can become a carrier of sickness and be a threat to yourself and others. Many people in hospital where you will do clinical are really really sick and have communicable diseases . Can you imagine the lawsuits? allowing someone to choose if they want to be vaccinated. Until you actually do clinical you have no clue on how ill people can be. I was so naive early on until I wasn't. I personally do not think the healthcare profession is for you.

As a working RN (almost 23 years), I have never been required to show proof of any vaccine. It was only in nursing school that I had that requirement.

Don't you people get it? These anti-vaccine folks are lions in the face of infectious disease. Though, for some reason, they seem to be delicate dandelions in the face of an infinitesimally small particle of killed or weakened virus and bacteria in vaccines.

horseshow, Interesting....being new for me its required every single semester, I had to show and update my vaccinations...now for instance I did not have to get re vaccinated for say measles (though I personally did as my titers should I was susceptible) but each semester I had to have the tb test redone and be vaccinated for flu. At the hospital I worked it is required to get flu every year. After my initial hire I no longer had to show any proof of vaccines. So I understand. I still have much to learn.

I just started a new job, at a health center, and I had to show proof of everything— vaccines, titers, and TB screening. It’s a federally funded facility, so maybe that’s why I had so much paperwork, but the requirements were the same as for clinicals.

...Why do people who don't believe in science or medicine want to go to nursing school?

I didn't write this, so I can't take credit for it...

I had a major epiphany today.
Some of you aren’t going to like this, but it’s flu season so here we gooooo ??‍♀️...

I think that people who don’t want to vaccinate should have the freedom to do so.
If they think that “Big pharma” is just trying to turn a profit or poison us all... they should be allowed to believe that.
But the caveat to that is this:
Then they should NOT go to the doctor or the hospital when they get sick, looking for treatment.
That’s right. And here’s why: Big pharma makes those antibiotics we are going to pump you full of when you are about to die from sepsis.
The steroids and epi we might give you to save your life from your anaphylaxis? Yep, big pharma is behind that too.
That inhaler you need to treat your kids asthma? Better pass on that as well, because... you guessed it... brought to you by Big P.
Having a heart attack? Better break out your essential oils and get your affairs in order, because the only thing we have to offer you is medicine and procedures brought to you by the very same people who are responsible for those vaccines you insist are evil.
Having a massive stroke? Can’t talk or move half your body? Well no TPA for you. Even though it could potentially reverse every symptom of your stroke in minutes...Because big pharma is making a killing on that stuff.. I think it’s like $25k a pop.
And when you get diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, don’t even think about chemo....
Code Blue?? Don’t expect us to crack open the crash cart! It’s just stocked full of meds we need to get your heart beating again. Where do you think they come from?
I think you get the picture.
Stop being so naive.
Everything has risks. Everything has side effects. Medicine is not perfect. We advocate for vaccinating your children and yourself because science has PROVEN its the most effective method of controlling the spread of disease and giving you and everyone around you the best chance of NOT DYING from something preventable. Believe me when I say that not vaccinating yourself or your children because you believe that big pharma only cares about profit or that the scientific medical community has been duped, is 100% insanity.
I personally take offense to anyone who implies that medical professionals, like myself, would ever administer anything to anyone, especially a child, that would intentionally harm them. I take even more offense to anyone that would imply that a college educated professional, like myself, is incapable of “doing the research.”
People always fire back with something like, “well if you are vaccinated, why do you care that I’m not? If you are so sure your vaccines work, It’s not like you can catch it.”
You are 100% right. I will probably be just fine. It’s my newborn baby who is too young to be vaccinated that I’m worried about, it’s my friend who is going through chemo, it’s a neighbor that is immune compromised, it’s my cousin who is allergic and can’t receive the vaccine. Yes, we tell you to get vaccinated to protect yourself, but it’s so much bigger than that.
Vaccinate. Because it’s not just about YOU.

This^ a million times!!! You said it soo much better than i could have!! It must be easy to criticize vaccinations when you get the luxury of herd immunity because everyone else made the choice to vaccinate. The only people who deserve the luxury of herd immunity are those who are too sick or young to recieve immunizations.
