From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.
For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing
I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.
Thanks in advance ?
So I too have a tentative offer for ICU float pool. I've done my blood draw, vetpro and all the HR paper work. I just have to send in my 9 essentials of nursing and wait for my references to do their part...I've tried to read through this thread, but can any elaborate and any details and extras they want in this experience letter? Both HR and the employee health RN told me to write everything I can think of, even things such as volunteering or coaching, because it all adds up...
Do you already work for VA? If not, I'm not sure how the employee health nurse is part of this mix....? And the "9 essentials of nursing"---are you referring to the Dimensions of Nursing Practice you'd do for promotions/evaluations?
A candidate for hire shouldn't be doing this, unless it's specific to your VA, so I'm a little stumped.
Hi all, I have been following this thread for last couple of months. I had an interview on last October and they call my reference. Since then no news , no calls , no emails. I called HR and said I just wanted to know I selected or not , HR rep. said she can't give any information and this is Atlanta va. If anybody know if I am not selected they inform me? Please help
If they say that they can give you no information, you CAN ask for clarification that you are still in the hiring process. You CAN ask if you are no longer being considered for the position, OR if you are still being considered, but it's still in process.
They do have to tell you SOMETHING :)
There is not much on this site about how much the VA pays LVNs so I thought I would give just a little insite. I just received my final offer and my starting salary was verrrry good. I have 15 years experience as a LVN. The salary offered was definitely worth the wait. If you are a LVN and would like to actually get good pay for all that you do the VA is the way to go!

Employee health draws the titers for immunizations and does the pre-employment physical.
I have a sheet that states I am supposed to gives examples of the 9 criteria of nursing practice as establishes by the VHA, that I have completed in my nursing career. This will go to the board along with resume and certifications, etc. to determine salary.

What I meant by "how is employee health involved" is 'how is it they are talking to you about what to put down on salary info stuff?' Bloodwork, physicals, etc etc....yes. But coaching on how to complete the application process? Would be odd at my VA, but if someone were already employed, and just changing jobs, wouldn't be odd. Pre-employment physicals typically come as a last/late step in the process, not before salary, etc is worked out. Just seems strange to have this discussion with occupational health, is all.
Every VA definitely does their own thing, in what they require and how. There's an expression "when you've seen one VA, you've seen.....one VA"! It seems yours does things a bit differently than I'm used to seeing.
Regardless, good luck in all this! :)
