  1. I will be starting the Acute Care NP traditional on-campus program at UT Arlington this fall. I'm excited and ready to go. If I start to get nervous, then I will not do well. So I have to keep the excitement going :-) I wish all of you starting in fall all the best.
  2. 1. I had jut cut off all my hair because I wanted to go natural without processing my hair anymore. However, my ID still had my long luxurious straightened permed hair. My pt grabbed my ID one day. Looked at it, then at me.Then said...."You look better in your ID".....lol....I can't. 2. After proceeding to teach a pt why it was important to eat a heart healthy diet and exercise.... the pt said "What happened with you why you do not take your own advice?"....... :-)....the nerve.
  3. I can't say my experience has been great. I have been at the VA about a year now. It is by the grace of God that I have hung in there. A few things I will point out that drove me nuts:- 1. The thirsty male staff in other departments that see fresh meat and constantly hit on you. The sexual harassment is real there. I've had to tell one too many "no, I'm not interested". The worst part in all this is that a lot of them are married. It becomes tiring fending them off. 2. I have to agree with the lady that said there is a undertone of jealousy. I was accepted to NP school. When I told my manager, I could tell that the congrats was not genuine. Usually I like keeping this detail to myself, but it couldn't be avoided as I needed her in order to apply for the scholarship. 3. The environment lacks professionalism. Nurse cursing at each other across the unit. I've had to tell a few stop it. 4. The constant moaning and groaning of staff over 1st admission and assignments are redundant. So much to tell. I've contemplated leaving many times. I'm about to start school and will try to make the best of it.
  4. Today I obtained my CCRN. However, I was already reviewed by the board. I do not start the position until late July. I contacted the HR rep to ask if this will be considered for a change in the previous boarding level. I was told the board only reviews 1 time. Is there anything that can be done to achieve acknowledgement for this credential?
  5. Hello Natira, I hope you got that call today. Wishing all work out for you.
  6. Hi Pairo. I am also moving to Dallas on July 20 to be exact. I was offered a job at the VA as well. A little nervous, but am ready for the transition from New York. I also would like to know more about the facility.
  7. They didn't contact my nurse mgr. I am not sure about HR.
  8. I didn't hear from them since April. I just carried on until I received a call yesterday. I can see how some people give up. The process is lengthy.
  9. Hello all. I finally got a start date at the end of July. This process started when the job posting closed March 3 this year. I had the interview 1 week later. Drug testing and physical in early April. Completed vetpro and equip April and was boarded at a nurse 2 step 4. This was a long process with so much paperwork. I leave it all to God now as I will be moving to another state for this job.
  10. I started about a year ago and had to stop for financial reasons after completing the 1st class. I was paying from my pocket. It as ridiculously time consuming. I'm a sucker for punishment, so I will return to complete the program.
  11. So here is my story. I was called by the nurse recruiter for the VA in my state because I had submitted a resume about 6 months prior to her email. I was told that the interview would be tentative to me passing a test. The interview was scheduled for the same day if I passed the test. That was January 8. I went in and was told that the manager would not be available for an interview as she had a personal situation and had to leave the country and would be rescheduled if I passed. I passed at 96%. So I went home and waited and called twice and was told that that they haven't started the interviewing process. However, after speaking to some of the ladies here about the ease of potentially transferring after I have the job since I was planning on moving from NY in about a year or so. I was told that I would have to apply all over again, so I opted to apply to the state I am moving to. The application closed mar 6 and I was called for an interview the week after, and the following week was offered tentative position pending credentialing. I just completed vetpro today which took 2 hours and I have to say was quite stressful as I did not have some information needed for work history. So it kept reverting back saying I needing information as it was greater than 30 days. I had to supply info that was 11 years ago before I became a nurse, as it counted my graduation date to when I actually started working as a nurse....geez. I will be doing my physical next week and am in the process of completing the demensions. After all of this....guess what? The initial job in my current state just called me today since Jan 8 for an interview. I think I'm gonna pass at that one. What do yall think?
  12. Thanks for the information because I really did not know that.
  13. Well I just started (barely) the process. I had sent my resume via email to the nurse recruiter about 6 months ago. I was called the week of Christmas for a "potential interview which would be dependent on me passing a critical care test. I went in took the test, which was by far one of the most difficult pre-employment test). However, I was successful. I am now awaiting a call for an interview date. Will keep you all up-to-date on my particular process as it progresses. I do want to work for the VA. It seems as if everyone seems to love their job. I'm excited about this opportunity. I have been my current job the last 10 years...but I will give it up to work for the VA. Just 1 question. If I am offered a job, how long after your start date are you allowed to transfer to another VA? I am hoping to move away to another state in about 1 1/2 year.
  14. At this VA. you have to take a test before getting an interview. It was a critical care exam. I thought I was taking the CCRN. It was difficult. However, experience and knowledge paid off. Onto the next step of interviewing soon.
  15. So I went in and did the test and got > 90%. Just so you all know...it was very difficult and I was surprised. I am waiting for the next step which will be the interview. Thanks all!
