As a male nurse I have always been told (beginning in school) that men need to wear undershirts to cover up chest hair. I can understand this but DOES IT EVER MAKE ME HOT. I only wish I knew of scrubs that were NOT v necks or if someone out there knows of a way to modify some v necks to make it where I/we don't have to wear an undershirt. I have even entertained to idea to make my own scrubs, to have three buttons on the top for ease of putting on and covering up. I look forward to reading all your suggestions and comments on this subject. Thank you!

What about wearing an Under Armor type shirt meant to help keep you cool?

Just take them to a tailor and have them sew a matching piece of material at the V neck area so it only looks like you have a teeshirt on. Women do this all the time to conceal a peep show of their cleavage!

100% agree with PP. You may not even have to go to a tailor if you or someone you know knows how to sew. Just take a small piece of the neck of a crew neck T-shirt and sew it underneath the v neck so it goes across the chest.

As another said, try an UnderArmour Heat Gear type of shirt. You can buy them in either compression fit or loose fit. I work out in the loose fit ones and wear the compression fit ones under some of my other shirts. I wear an undershirt under every shirt I wear and guess I'm used to it. I think I stay cooler and less sweaty in the summer and warmer in the winter. In fact, I ran to my white t-shirt drawer and found that I have 16 100% cotton, white, crewneck t-shirts to wear under sundry items. I have four 100% cotton black ones, two 100% cotton gray ones, and a wide assortment of about ten UA types of shirts (heat gear and cold gear) with a couple of them being the Nike brand.

Like a dickey for your scrubs!
You could also consider wearing a sleeveless t-shirt (AKA "wife-beater"---not trying to offend anyone), but you'd possibly still be too warm.

Shave the areas that stick out above the V-neck maybe?
Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. What I have been doing is wearing sleeveless undershirts, doesn't help much. I have even though of cutting out the necks of my cotton undershirts and sewing them inside the v neck of the scrubs. I will most certainly look into the under armour shirts. Shaving sucks. Maybe an undershirt will benefit me since I have been wanting to work ER as a first hospital job and likely it will be at nights. Again, Thank you!!

Dickies!
I've actually worn very thin shirts or running shirts (like Under Armor-style) just as an added layer for wicking. It does help keep me cooler.

Have you tried on landau scrub tops? The mens isn't a deep V and unless your extra hairy I don't think it would show
