UTMB Spring 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Hey Guys!

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!

Youre gonna have to pull yourself together and fight to pass both the Nursing, Chem and History because you can do anything you put your mind to. Ask for help and sign up for tutoring don't let your situation frustrate you more than what you are. Youre better than youre situation!

I have to agree with Twoy about not dropping the ADN, merely HOPING you will get into something for spring! Say yopu don't get in...then you are stuck HOPING again to get into something for Fall and then you will have wasted enough time that you could have already had your BSN going the long route with the ADN first.... I only have 2 current classes (2 more start in a few weeks)for my ADN program and also an additional online class....for a total of 10 credit hours this fall. I too have big personal responsiblities as I have just launched my online store and have been overwhelmed with the response/sales that I have already generated with it. GO figure...I wait until I start a nursing program to start a business... If I get into UTMB I will be closing my online store or having the hubby take over it so I can keep up with school as it is my #1 priority!

Keep in mind that UTMB will be 16-18 credit hours a semester! And having Pharmacology/Patho on top of the norm nursing stuff will be sort of like what you are experiencing... Tutoring, LOTS of studying, and time management :)

I think twoy83 said it perfectly...it's going to be hard as you already know but you are obviously smart, and you absolutely CAN do anything you put your mind to! I know I've been through some tough stuff this past year and I'm sure many others on here have as well...you just have to stay focused and keep your goals in mind. You can do it! And, if you do, you'll be waaaay ahead and more prepared when you do start your BSN this spring ;)

Yes, you are all right... I was just having a big freak out moment yesterday and today! I'm going to wait at least until I hear something (hopefully) next week, then go from there...

I think my tiredness is getting to me and I started freaking out...lol

I wonder why they postponed the rest of the interviews... Maybe they didn't have enough applicants and we all get in?!

Thanks for the pep-talk y'all!

I sure hope so and you will be fine just hang on in there and I'm here anytime you need to vent.

Lol KRR2009. I must say that I agree with you

Yeah, at this point I've kind of moved away from worrying about getting e-mails and focused myself on school and what i'm gonna do if I get in lol. So I've been looking around at appartments, its actually gotten my mind off of everything :) at least until the 26th. I'm thinking about either Casa Caribe, Carlton Courtyards or if I'm really in a bind Ferry Rd Apartments with an efficiency :/ :clown:

Maybe it's wishful thinking but I've been doing the same thing! When I was down there for the info session in June, I stopped by a few apartments...there's really not much close to the school. One of the students that spoke said that a lot of students live on the west end of the island. Not sure exactly where that would be exactly lol but it was helpful...

If you aren't used to driving around Galveston, the west end of the island, depending on har far west....can be a pretty long trek to UTMB. I know it may look like a short distance on a map, but there are SOO many lights on the seawall! Not to mention the crazyness that happens with the traffic many times a year that causes severe congested traffic all over. Say for instance you have clinical at the Children's Hospital in Downtown on a Saturday...even a Friday... and you are trying to get back home after a 12 hour clinical shift....but you are stuck in crazy traffic on 45 at the causeway because everyone and their mother is trying to get on the island to Mardi Gras....or LoneStar Rally....or Just a random beautiful spring or summer day! Once you get through the causeway it can still be a HUGE headache trying to get where you want to go!

I'm not saying you won't be happy as a clam living on the island... I am just giving a forwarning to those who may not be aware of the craziness that goes on on a pretty normal basis here.

Personally I dont mind a 30 minute commute with the trade off being that I only have to deal with the crazy antics of Galveston because I am wanting to. I personally participate on Lone Star Rally every year religiously and have yet to see a year that isnt bigger than the year before....and it is a 3 day event!

If you have a chance (for those wanting to move close to campus) go down to Galveston an drive around the areas you are thinking of living...at night time. You might be surprised at what you see. There are some bad area of the island and some better areas.

I am not trying to scare anyone from living on the island. I am simply trying to give people who may have no idea about the area before making a decision. Ask around, get different perspectives! Me personally...I prefer a 30 miniute commute into the island.

Hope this doesnt tick anyone off.... As this is not meant to!

I completely agree. Parts of Galveston can be very rough. I would even go as far as to check with the local PD and see what they could tell me about those apts and how often they visit them. The West End is definitely the safer area.

It seems like a lot of people have families and such. Just out of curiousity how old is everyone? I'm 25.

thanks everyone for the great advice!! for sure i’ll be taking a trip on to galveston at night to make sure i’ll feel safe wherever i decide to live at. i’m looking into either an apartment or to rent a house. not sure as to what area to stay at. also thanks for mentioning about commuting from the medical center and trying to get back home. 45 traffic is crazy!!! so i would get stay at my parent’s home during those times since it closer. for mylisa, i’m 21 about to turn 22 within two weeks.

Im 26....married but no children
