UTMB Spring 2012

U.S.A. Texas

Hey Guys!

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!

Makes me wonder how many applicants for this semester have found this thread and follow it but dont really speak up?

I am sure 30 years old will NOT be the oldest in the group...

Uhhhmmm...44 years young padawan. I am "retiring" this month from my job. I have Masters degree but I am ready for a second career. I worked as a Paramedic my first time through college. I live in Friendswood and would never live in Galveston, nor subject my kids to the schools down there. IMO having lived/worked in this area 4 decades.

im 20 i will be 21 in January =)

I'm 29 and oh my 30 is young!

I found this thread long ago and never have posted. Im a first timer! Just thought I would chime in to let you know that this is where I get most if not all of my info about interviews, etc. I applied and have good stats but have not yet been invited to interview. I am very nervous yet very hopeful! I think that there are lots of people like me out there that read but dont post... so thank you to all who post helpful information! Keep it coming!

What do you think...

In the program I'm in now there seems to be an underlying, widespread panic almost, of people scared they aren't going to pass; pass each exam, each skill check-off, or pass the nursing program itself.

Getting in is very competitive (to say the least), so I'm just wondering if its the same feeling in the BSN program: Is there an underlying fear of failing the program or are people more confident and relaxed?

Guess this question is directed to our one BSN program responder!! But, any one can chime in!

Just curious, but what program (what college) are you currently in?

I am at COM....I have had 2 tests in Assessment (90 on the first and 85 on the second), a test in Skills 1 (89.75) and a vitals check off already. I have learned getting an 'A' is going to be HARD!!! A lot of people seem pretty determined and I admit that the tests and coursework is NOT at all easy, but it is doable. I haven't heard of many people worried about passing the program but I can say that it takes a lot of patience and time management as there is a lot of self teaching involved.

I am sure it is going to get harder and I do feel as though it is going fast. I can't imagine that I would feel ready to go out into a position at a hosp by myself in less than 2 years....

I think the main reason people act like the sky is because nursing school is unlike an other college they have experienced...no curve, no exam grade drops, no rounding of grades, and above all else....BELOW A 75 IS FAILING!

It is intimidating for sure!!!

I'm at Lee in Baytown... Yeah, I totally get it... Just curious if that feeling was everywhere... Lots of self-teaching in this program too. Guess its across the board... I made a 65 on my first exam, however in my defense I hadn't studied, so that grade was basically off of lecture and the review questions I did online... (I'm studying alot more now...lol)

Doing these other classes is really kicking my arss! I am definitely learning time management! The nursing seems to be the easiest of them all. That being said, I do not consider it "easy," just more so than the others because right now it all seems like common sense stuff. Of course we are just in the first 4 weeks, so I am totally understanding that I am nowhere close to knowing anything about nursing! I did make 90s on the posologys though, so that's encouraging! I have an exam tomorrow over mobility, safety and something else, skill check off for physical assessment and med admin. this week and exams in my other classes!

Busy first few days! I hope we hear something soon about UTMB!!

I know I'm doing this right now to prepare me for the next few semesters... Just can't wait to find out!!

Good luck to everyone this week!!

Exact same here. People were freaked about our first exam - only one 'C' out of the entire class. And that person must have just been lazy or a horrible test taker because the review they gave was spoon feeding us. Our two exams this past week had people pretty upset - there were some awful questions, but I did okay. However, I think there were several D's. When you make below an 80 on an exam, you are sent to the academic counselor who will have your test in front of her for the meeting. She wants to know what went wrong - they truly want their students to succeed. 1/2 the class has already had our first check off and the rest do it this week - as far as I know, everyone passed. #2 is coming up next week and everyone is beginning to panic already (I'm not, but this isn't new for me) So, long story short, BSN students are just as nervous and afraid of failing as any other program!!!
