UTMB Spring 2012

Published

Hey Guys!

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!

Yea, I understand... Not everyone, so much as most who interviewed were accepted. They said there are 120 slots open, not sure how many are interviews. She said in this first batch they look over the first 75-100 applications, of which 40 got interviews. Yesterday she said there were 37 interviewing on the same Friday that I am going in. 9/9/11

Trying to figure if there are 5 Fridays in September and roughly 40 per day, that would be about 200 interviews.

From reading the Fall board it seems everyone who Interviewed received an acceptance letter in the first couple of batches. Tha t question was asked alot but wasn't answered.

@ Punky omg your april's fool prank was too funny!

I really hope the next batch of invites goes out Tuesday.....

I wonder if there is a way to find out if my app was one in the first group of apps that was not asked to interview. If I don't have a shot I want to just get it over with...like ripping off a band aid...

I applied for Spring 2010 and I didn't get an invite until about September and the interview was in October. The earlier deadline might just be because they're getting more applicants and need more time to sort through them. I hope not though I'd really like to know soon!

Hi hgoff!

You got an invite to interview... Did you go? Do you know how many get interviews versus how many get acceptance letters after being interviewed?

Thanks! Good luck this time around!

Maybe you could call the dean of admin? (I think) and ask that question? Its a reasonable inquiry, I would think...

Hang in there! Apparently there's still a whole lot more to go!

New here! I applied to UTMB for Spring 2012, I didn't get an interview invite for the first round of interviews, but a friend did! Good luck all. :)

Hi Fellow Gemini!

I'm not seeing many people posting interviews on here for next week. I talked to the lady in the office who said they actually have 37 interviews this Friday. Besides, they are interviewing every Friday so there's plenty of time.

Do you mind posting your scores? Mine are: 3.4 GPA and 74.9% on the TEAS V... Decent scores :-)

Welcome!

My overall GPA is about a 3.6, I think! I went to 2 different schools in Texas, so I'm not sure what it is throughout both transcripts. I haven't calculated, but ~3.6 is my guess. My prereqs for nursing is a 4.0. Science and everything else included, etc. My TEAS V was a 78.2% I'm not proud of that score, but that's what I got. Not saying you shouldn't be proud of yours! I just wasn't happy with my score. I don't feel like I have a very good chance of getting in, but who knows. My friend who got an interview for September 9th got an 82% on the TEAS V and overall gpa is 3.45 with science pre reqs/ nursing prereqs being 4.0 as well!

Those scores are fine. From what I'm reading UTMB is about more than just scores--not that high scores isn't okay. I've seen people get interviews with less than a 3.0, so no shame in what we have! I worked dang hard for mine--and they would be closer to a 3.7 but the "C" in statistics (the only "C" I have ever gotten) brought me way down two semesters ago...

Oh well! I really feel its the personal essay that got me an interview...

Good luck!

What did you happen to write about in yours if you don't mind me asking? I'm always curious what people write about, but no one ever mentions. I wrote about some withdrawals I got when I first started going to school, and why I got them. Also, how I took care of my grandpa for the last few years of his life before he died. Why I am passionate about becoming a nurse, etc. I've never written an essay for any school before, so I was really unsure about what to write about... I just wrote what was in my heart. Hopefully that was enough. Eh!!

Thats pretty much the same as I did. I spoke about my life experience and why I want to be a nurse. I mentioned why I had a couple gaps in my schooling. Basically the exact same thing. I've never applied anywhere else, aside from an RN program, and never wrote an essay for it either. I'm excited. This year theyre getting the interview done earlier a bit. The 2009 group didn't get interviews until late October and early November!
