Hey Guys!
I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!

That's from the School of Medicine, so don't be shocked if the SON operates completely different. For starters, the bit about the 4 weeks notice. Um, I got a phone call on a Wednesday afternoon and interviewed on Friday. Unless you're out of state, don't expect more than about a week's notice. I also don't think they interview 50-60 per time. The number is probably closer to 10-20. I don't think any one got a formal letter about interviewing - it was by phone and email only. So in short, that info doesn't really apply to the SON other than the fact that they both have a process. To those stressing about not hearing back yet, you might as well stop - you'll make yourselves sick (just go read past semester pages!!)
They go out in batches - they don't send all interview invites out at once. It could easily be a month (or more!) before you hear something one way or another. Trust me. I freaked out too - been here, done this. No amount of worry is going to speed them up. If you don't like their organization now, trust me, you won't like this disorganization later Just because you didn't get an interview call/email this week doesn't mean you'll be denied!!
Call them. Double check that your application is complete. Then just breathe and find something to do with your time
Hey Punky!
Thanks so much for the reply! Can you offer any suggestions for the interviewing process? Were the interviewers nice? What sorts of questions did they ask? Did you wear your hair up or down?
I have never interviewed before so I'm trying to make this a meditative process that I go into with great planning.
Thanks again!

I don't think it would be fair to give specific questions, but it was just like any other interview I'd ever been in (I realize that may not help you a lot) I was asked some about grades, my essay, ethics. Some what if's, wwyd?? Just be confident and smile, and answer honestly. My interviewer was very nice and when she finished with me, took me to meet the Dean (office was next door). I haven't heard anyone say anything negative about their interview.
I wore dress slacks, cami with a cardigan, scarf and heels (it was cold the day I interviewed.) My hear was down but tied 1/2 back. Minimal jewelry and makeup
Thanks Punky!
I agree, better to let me answer the questions as they come from the interviewers without having heard them already.
I'm really exited! It looks like most, if not all the people that got interviewed were accepted?
Did there seem to be any rhyme as to when people actually got their acceptance letter? Like, for those that were interviewed in the first batch, did they also hear back relatively sooner than the second batch and so on?
And, for those that start in the Spring of 2012, we will be graduating with the Fall of 2011 in May of 2013?
Maybe I'll meet ya? lol Also, do you commute? I'm coming from Baytown and trying to figure out which direction is better, 146 or 45 with traffic?
Thanks!
As far as interview vs. acceptance; yes, those who interviewed were accepted. But there was no rhyme as to how we were notified. I was notified in less than 24 hrs, but that was because of another deadline that I made my interviewer aware of. I think it was mostly 4-7 days turn around.
I'm commuting from 45 and El Dorado. I've yet to have any traffic problems with 45. It takes me longer to get from causeway to campus that it does my house to the island. The worst thing you'll run into get getting stuck at a train on Harborside. Though on Thursday, most of our class was stranded on the causeway due to a really bad wreck by Tiki Island.
And yes, those who enter Spring 2012 will be graduating with those of us who just started this week!! They refer to you guys as springers :)
something they do is a mentor program - matching a senior student with a junior student. It's been hit and miss for my class on getting good, helpful mentors, but those with good ones have been pretty relaxed. You'll have someone to really ask questions to once you get in! My poor mentor has been asking questions since april!!
It would make sense that everyone accepted had been interviewed...lolDo you know if their were people who were interviewed but didn't make it in?
I'm hoping that's not the case!
Not everyone Interviewed gets an acceptance letter if you read the Fall 2011 board you will see alot of denials after they Inteviewed. If that was the case it would be no reason to Interview!
