UTMB Spring 2012

Published

Hey Guys!

I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread for all UTMB Galveston's Spring 2012 traditional bsn applicants. Have you all started to apply yet or at least looked at the application? What do you think? How are your personal statements/testing going? If you guys have anything worth discussing please post and good luck to all!

@punkydoodles have you started classes yet? I'd love to hear how they're going! And thanks for the encouragement. I noticed from previous semesters' threads that things seem to be all over the place at UTMB LOL.

We've had 5 days of orientation, one opening ceremony and just finished class day #2 :) :yeah: Sometimes it feels like they are totally disorganized - it's frustrating. But, despite this fault, I still wouldn't want to be anywhere else because so far, it seems that the faculty TRULY wants each and every one of us to succeed. I've been pretty impressed with our instructors (mostly) We picked our clinical sites last night and that was nothing short of chaotic, but it was in the privacy of your own home frantically hitting submit on your computer at 1900 :)

For the interview - just prepare for it like you would any job interview. What sorts of things would they probably want to know (based on the info they already have)? Make a long list of possible questions and practice answering them, use your mom dad, husband, girlfriend, dog anyone. Just practice talking. They expect you to be nervous - they're used to that. Walk in, confidently!, sit down, take a deep breath and smile. Breath in before every answer. Be thoughtful before you say anything and just be honest with how you answer. My interviewer was super nice and I haven't heard a classmate say otherwise about theirs! Dress and act professionally, they are *really* big on that here!!

After your interview, expect to still wait several weeks before you hear about an acceptance - we all did a lot of waiting :redbeathe

Still new at this, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I was helped along the way and only feel right doing the same!!

I have an interview for UTMB on September 9 @10:30. I'm so excited i could dance.

Hi! I got an email yesterday too!! I have an interview at 9:00am on Friday, 9/1!!!! I had totally written UTMB off because I didn't have two of the pre-reqs done. Then all of the sudden I got the email!!! I called and confirmed right away!! My GPA is 3.3 and my TEAS V was 74.9%, so both are about average I think.

Congratulations!!!

Does everybody that have all of their pre-req's completed get an interview?

Hi punkydoodles!

Congratulations on your new start at UTMB! I followed last year's threads and was so happy you got in :-)

Do you know if everybody that has their pre-req's done, at least an average GPA, and average TEAS score get an interview? Or are applicants selected and paired down?

Thanks!

I guess it doesn't matter of youre finish with everything because I myself has everything completed and i know others that received interviews and are still taking classes.

Thanks for all the info! Did you live on the island already or did you move there? Where did you end up picking for your clinical site?

I live clear lake. I have a family, so moving to the island wasn't an option. Commuting sucks, but oh well. I'm in class W/TH. My clinicals are every other MT and the other weeks I'll be on campus for labs/simulations. So I either drive 4 days or 2 days, so it's not too bad. I'll be at St. Lukes for my clinical site, so I plan on taking metro! Cheaper and easier than driving myself!!

I don't think that having a good GPA, TEAS and completed pre-reqs was an automatic interview. If I remember from our thread, there were several that fit that and didn't get an interview/acceptance, yet many who lacked classes had an ehh GPA got in. That's the thing about UTMB, they look at more than just numbers. For me, that was a good thing because during my interview it was discovered that an entire transcript was missing, which had tanked my GPA and have me with a lot of pre-reqs left to be finished. It was my essay that had peaked their interest and prompted the call.

I still have not received an email :bluecry1:

I really do hope I at least get invited for an interview...Wonder when the next batch of invites will go out?

Hi. I have been following this thread for a while now and sadly, I have also not received an interview invite yet. Has anyone else heard anything since the Wednesday? Also, where can I find the number to call the dean of admissions? I hope we all hear something soon...

Here is some information i found onlineon the UTMB website so don't worry if you haven't received anything it's a process so just be patient!

Interview Schedule

In order to be considered for admission, you must be invited for a personal interview. Invitation letters are sent approximately 4 weeks before the scheduled interview date so that you have adequate time for travel arrangements. Interviews are held on Fridays. Each day we will interview approximately 50 to 60 applicants.

The tentative interview dates for 2011 are: August5, 12, 19, 26September2, 9, 16, 23, 30October 7, 14, 21, 28November4, 11, 18December9

Policy for Assigning Interview Dates

Initial Interview Date:

Once an applicant has been granted an interview, the following procedures is used to assign an initial interview date.

1. Applicant is assigned an interview date by the Student Information System.

2. The assigned date is sent to the applicant in an e-mail informing them that they

have been granted an interview.

3. The e-mail is followed by a formal letter.

4. The student is asked to contact the Office of Admissions to confirm the interview

date.

It looks like that came from the School of Medicine page, but I would expect something similar for Nursing. Thanks for the reassurance! I'm still waiting too.

i pulled it from the Office of Admission
