UTHSCSA - UT Health Science Center San Antonio - Spring 09

Published

Sorry I didn't want this post to get mixed up with the other thread haha it's so long.

Anyways wondering if anyone else applied for the Spring 09. Im also wondering if its worth buying the study guide for the TEAS that they are selling and what kind of questions they ask you in the interview.

I'm so nervous because mine is coming up!

-Thanks Duc

Ya I agree about Vintage being overpriced! In case anyone is still looking for an apartment, I just leased a 2bdrm at Broadstone on Medical...They were running great specials and all units come with a washer/dryer...and I can walk to school :)

Good luck to all on the roommate/apartment hunt!

Also, does anyone know anything about orientation? Or is that info. still coming...

I found a place called Spice Creek Apartments. It's pretty much the one i'm going to lease since carlyle is like out of my price range haha..

About orientation still haven't heard anything about that and I still dont have my financial aid info :-(

Otherwise 1 month left! Do we need to buy anything in advance?

I don't have my financial aid info yet either!! I talked to them yesterday though and they told me awards should be available sometime this week or next so just keep checking

Has anyone bought books yet? Is there a list somewhere?

Ah yes, the books...If you go to the bookstore link off the student website you can find all the books required/reccommended for class. And it is long. Very very long, lol. I added the books (some are used for more than 1 class) and the amount came out to around $900!!! And that is for USED. LOL. I am going to start looking online or something.

HOLY %@#!

I just added the books and checked the used if applicable and it calculated the cost to be $1300..... omg haha

Just to be sure the classes we have are

Nurs 3209

Nurs 3312

Nurs 3802

For a total of 13 hours right?

*edit* Opps didnt see that some of the books are added 2 times b/c of the sharing of books in other classes >.

I may have calculated it differently. I added everything up my own just totally only the used books and it came out to approx 900. So there must be some books out there that you HAVE to buy NEW unfortunately. :crying2:

I took off some of the books like your road map to nursing school (or whatever it's called), test success, and then the publication thing. I'm not going to buy those unless we absolutely have to. But yeah, even with that and used when available it was around $900. I wish they'd list the ISBN so we could compare prices with other places.

So the shoes...

Would that pair be ok? I mean how white does it have to be? I was thinking about getting that and a pair of kswiss.

Has anyone noticed how one of the books is called Fund.Of Nursing w/ CD and there is another called the same thing Fund.OfNursing w/CD- Corrected.

What the heck does this mean? Is it the same book? Wierd

Yes rfs, they are the same book. It's just that the original version (the one I had to buy) had mistakes on the CD's practice questions. It's not a big deal at all. I don't know why they listed them twice.

UTHSCSA Hopeful: I would buy the APA publication book because even though you will only use it like twice during 1st semester, you will need it for the rest of nursing school (especially 2nd semester, supposedly). I guess you could always look up what you need out of someone else's book or from the library, but might as well buy it and have it ready. I think you could do without the "Tour Guide to Nursing School" book, even though there is assigned reading from it for 3209. Honestly, I read like a third of it and moved on to more important readings. It's pretty small and some people bought it, read it, then returned it, lol. Definitely skip that Test Success book and ALL of the recommended books. I NEVER opened those stupid recommended books ONCE or the test success one.

AznPlaya,

I think those shoes are good enough color-wise. I don't think it has to be entirely white. The only thing I would make sure is that they are solid leather, not breathable due to needle sticks, vomit, crap, etc. I have some new balance ones that are all leather and all white, although I dont think they are as comfortable as the shox.
