UTHSCSA Accelerated BSN Summer 2015

Published

Hi everyone!

I looked and looked on here but I didn't see a thread for people applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Accelerated BSN Summer 2015 program, so I thought I'd start a thread. I just submitted my application (kind of late I know). How's it going for everyone?

Here is a quote I found from a 2013-2014 accelerated student about the textbooks and software. It is from this thread.

So the computers come with your normal operating software and microsoft office products pre-installed. The IT department has them set up and ready to go for you.

I hope i can explain the rest clearly:

If you choose ebooks instead of hard back books, you can either purchase your ebooks access code from the bookstore as a bundle or individual ebooks directly from the Evolve website ( Evolve.elsevier.com ). If you have ever bought any ebook online from amazon or google play store, its the same concept. When you log in to the evolve account, you have a digital library that stores all your ebooks in one place. You can access your ebooks from any device with internet access or you can download each ebook to up to 2 devices so you can use them even without internet. You do not have to use strictly ebooks OR hardback books.

You are required to purchase an ATI book set (paperback) which comes with online tools and electronic access to the books. This is for NCLEX preparation. You will take ATI proctored exams each semester on different subjects you are learning. The cost is split up across the 4 semesters, and you pay for this at the start of each semester out of pocket.

I hope i answered your questions fully. Let me know if i need to clarify anything.

That quote was confusing haha. But...I confirmed with UTHSCSA that once our ATI purchase is made we will have online access to the materials (found on ATI student home tab under product support materials) + we will be provided with paperback ATI materials during orientation.

Does anyones student account show a hold for the criminal background check again?

Not mine, sorry :/

FutrNP, I chose a Zone 3 parking pass.

Were you able to purchase a parking permit? Mine is still saying that there aren't any permits available for me to purchase.

Does anyone know what type of stethoscope we need for school? Or do we need a specific one?

They're not doing permits online anymore, so you have to go to the school to get one. They said they aren't doing permits online because the site usually assigns you Zone 5 and they have other zones available (pretty much all zones are available).

I just called the school to ask when an official list of textbooks will be released and they said they didn't know and that sometimes professors email students to let us know what we'll need and that we should find out more during orientation. Told them finding out during orientation seems last minute. Now I'm debating on just going ahead and buying the books listed in our summer schedule. Also asked when we'll have access to Blackboard and they weren't sure about that either.

FutrNP, I chose a Zone 3 parking pass.

Thanks for the update! I guess I will have to wait until orientation to buy my pass then 😔

Well, my dad went ahead and bought me a stethoscope as a gift. He got me the Littman Master Classic II. (He works in a hospital and as a Firefighter paramedic).

I read on other forums that you could get by with the cheap ones, but if you gotta buy one anyways...

Just my thought

We can now log in to Blackboard, but it doesn't show any course content yet.
