I emailed with Debbie Koehne about the schedule and she said we start the 24th, so no break in between. The plan was originally the 31st but they couldn't fit the full semester in that way.

I had previously posted in our class's Facebook group about the start date for Fall 2015. I deactivated my Facebook account but in case anyone's curious we will start fall classes on August 24th. From what I can tell our last summer class day is on August 18th and the term officially ends August 21st...so no real break in between Summer and Fall semesters unfortunately.

Does anyone know what we're going to need for supplies for lab/clinical? I figured we'd need a stethoscope and medical scissors, but beyond that I'm not sure.

So, just curious, has anyone heard good things about the program or any of its professors? I haven't talked to many people who are actually in the traditional or accelerated programs but what little I have heard seems to be somewhat negative. An acquaintance whose husband went through the accelerated program a couple of years ago described it as a "hot mess". And I haven't been able to find much about any of the professors online. UTHSCSA was always my first choice since I live in San Antonio and I planned to tough the program out even if they are still working out kinks, but yeah, just wondering, and I don't mean to scare anyone either heh.

@Barsumian Honestly I'm not sure if there is an optimal device for e-books. Since they are from different companies, I think there might not be a consistent device that they are most often developed for, if that makes sense. When I have used e-books it was mostly by logging into a website on my laptop. I've only used them for maybe three classes and only because my class required the other online stuff that went along with the e-book subscription. I'm going to stick to old-fashioned textbooks myself; I have a feeling I'll be able to get away with keeping them at home most of the time since we'll just be in four hour (!!!) lectures, so I'm not too worried about lugging them around.

Everything I've read about reading on a computer/tablet/phone says it keeps your brain awake. I have an app on my macbook called f.lux that does pretty much what Original_red described, but I'm not sure if something like that is available for every tablet/phone. Also, in my limited experience with e-textbooks, none of them ever had a feature that allowed for easy flipping back and forth between pages that are in different sections, which I do sometimes while studying. I actually have a Kindle Paperwhite which is strictly an e-reader, but I've only ever used it for leisure reading. @Winnieas89 if you click on the individual class names on this page it will take you to a page with course info. Usually you do not have access to online content with used books. I highly recommend bigwords.com; it compares prices from different websites including Amazon and you can specify whether you want to rent or buy and if you want new/used/e-books. I haven't been able to purchase a parking permit either. Not sure which zone to request.

Yeah I wish we'd start hearing from teachers too, and since we haven't been officially given our reading assignments yet, I'm not sure how urgent it is that we get started on them. Reddit has a whole bunch of content on a whole bunch of different topics but I just follow the "subreddits" (groups/forums) that are specific to my interests. They have a subreddit called /r/nursing for people who are already nurses and one called /r/studentnurses too.

Ha I was just pricing out textbooks as well. I'm considering renting a few vs. buying going off what I'm reading on threads here and at reddit.com/r/nursing. I was also thinking about buying old editions to save more money. It never impacted me negatively when I did that for pre-reqs but I'm more nervous to do that now. Are you going to buy all of the "recommended" ones? I don't know whether to buy now or wait til orientation, but you're right, not a lot of time to read ahead if we wait.

Yeah I definitely recommend talking to someone at the office directly if you any have questions about your situation, that's just what she told me. I actually did call about setting up an appointment and a counselor just answered my questions over the phone instead. I'm definitely in the same boat, going to take all the aid even though I was really trying to avoid unsubsidized loans...idk what to do about renting an apartment and everything now blegh.
