Hi everyone!
I looked and looked on here but I didn't see a thread for people applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Accelerated BSN Summer 2015 program, so I thought I'd start a thread. I just submitted my application (kind of late I know). How's it going for everyone?
I plan on quitting my job the Monday before orientation. I'm waiting to see how the clinicals are going to play out but from previous schedules its appears that weekends are for clinicals. The best I can hope for is to pick up a shift or two here and there for side money honestly. (I work as a manager at a bar).
Is anyone planning on working once school starts? I know it's not recommended but I'd really rather not end up with a ridiculous amount of loans if I can avoid it, so I've been looking for weekend jobs in hospitals but now I'm not sure if I'll have the time.
I'm taking an educational leave starting the week of orientation. I'm gonna try it out at first and see if I have time to pick up shifts. I work at HEB pharmacy.
I think we buy the orange scrubs during orientation. Can we buy any color scrub for the regular one.
I started buying little accessories for school lol. I'm excited I couldn't help myself. What kind of shoes are y'all going to get. I wish they send out a list of things we need before orientation.
I read on another persons post that we need the following list:
Scrubs, pen light, sharpie (endless uses lol), watch with second hand, stethoscope, shears, black shoes.
Not sure how accurate that is, but I have a BP cuff, stethoscope, trauma shears, blood gas cards (idk) and a pen light. My dad got it for me, he works in a hospital /fireMedic.
I found a document by UTHSCSA that's says the schools tops with black bottoms (from anywhere) and then any color scrubs for labs. So I think I'll go try on some scrubs for fun :) here is the link for the school uniform rules:

Thanks for the input about jobs! Maybe I'll hold off on applying for stuff.
I'm super pumped for May to get here lol. I've been looking at so many apartments and can't wait to get settled and ready. I went and looked at the scrubs in February when I dropped off my deposit. My sister goes to the dental school so she showed me around campus a bit too. :) I'm really bummed we have to get black shoes. But I am excited that we don't have to wear the orange scrubs for everything if that's true...not a fan of that color.

From my understand of that article, we actually aren't allowed to wear those Orange UTHSCSA tops unless we are at on site clinical. I was looking at tops online...there are some seriously weird ones lol
I don't remember reading anything about getting other scrubs for clinicals. Where did you guys get the info?
Other scrubs for clinicals? Not sure what you mean. The burnt orange UTHSCSA scrubs tops with black scrub bottoms are used for clinicals only. Then we will need "non-clinical scrubs" for labs /learning center. I'm assuming that means any kind we want. Check out that link above. Hope that clears what we were talking about up.
