UTHSC Summer 2017

Published

Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

Hello everyone! I just submitted my application last night and my transcripts are on their way. When they talk about the minimum science GPA is it all sciences I've ever taken or just the prerequisite ones? I have a biology degree and well, I found a few upper level biochem classes hard haha. My science prereq GPA is awesome though.

Hi guys,

So apparently UTHSC doesn't let you take the HESI more than 2 times in a course of a "lifetime??" I called the department and they verified. My dilemma is that my time taking it was in 2014 and that too was my second attempt. While I'm satisfied with the score they said I wouldn't be able to apply because the scores can't be older than 2 years. It was a pretty awkward phone conversation as both me and whomever was on the other line were like ...... ok ....

lol did anybody else have a similar issue? I went and registered for the HESI anyways and it let me using the department code but a part of me thought about clarifying with the school beforehand. This is a super strict policy and in my opinion makes it impossible for students wanting to take a break and reapply.

I'm confused about whether to retake the test and apply anyways just to see what they would say...worse case I get a rejection letter because they look into the back history but I'm hoping there is some sort of loophole...if anybody has further information regarding this topic please let me know

Hi AB,

Does this mean you can't apply for this school anymore period?

I would assume if the scores are expired you could retake it regardless of the lifetime limit.

Really hope something can be done for you!

I spoke with admissions this afternoon, and asked about my HESI scores also. My first attempt was June 2016, and latest attempt was December 2016. Although, both attempts were with different school codes (first choice, second choice) she said they both count towards my lifetime limit with UTHSC-H.

Which bums me out because if I am not accepted there's nothing I can do to improve it.

FYI for all - when I called admissions today they said there is a queue of applications they are opening to grant access to the UTH portal (where you view application status, pending items).

I submitted mine on 12/22 and she said I should have my email with portal information this week, for anyone else who submitted theirs the same time.

Hi Andrea,

Yes that's what they straight up told me lol í ½í¸‚ I'm laughing because it's so super strict it's borderline stupid. The lady confirmed with one of the admission directors and I suggested they may want to add a section of wording on the website telling potential applicants "hey two times and then you better apply within 2 years or you're done". I've never heard of any other programs that do something like this but that may be me :-) She even had a tone of bewilderment while giving me the information because It's just a weird policy...it makes me wonder how adamant they are situationally per applicant. With that said I've got to take the HESI again for other programs and will apply nonetheless! In my books nothing is impossible, and if I do get a rejection letter it'll offer closure on this particular program. Good luck to everyone else and please do keep me updated if I posted incorrect information

Hello, I just attended the online information session for UTH. Do recommend if you cannot attend the in-person session at the SON.

Just wanted to give a brief overview of the information covered.

The Organizer stated they are in the process of changing the notification periods, so for Summer we should hear something by February-March. Many times the organizer mentioned they are metric-based with their admission criteria (I do not understand what she meant by this). She also clarified the science GPA is only comprised of the sciences they require (A&P I, A&P II, Microbiology, and Chemistry). Therefore, if you have taken General Bio, Organic Chem, those are not counted towards their science GPA.

For the HESI they just removed CT from their considerations 4 months ago.

Update - This morning I received myUTH logon information. My HESI scores show in my To-Do list, so I will give it a few more days before I check if they're received.

I took my HESI December 28th and they removed it from my to do list January 3rd.=]

This may be a dumb question, but thought someone here could help before I call the school. When I log into myUTH account I see where I can click on "To Do List", which has my transcripts and HESI score listed. Is there a way to tell what has been completed and taken off the "To Do List"? I've attended 4 universities and am fairly certain I included each one on my application, however now I am having doubts. I see a total of 3 listed in my list, and want to ensure that they've received one and I didn't forget to include it in my app.

Thanks,

Brandon

@Mermaid_

They removed my HESI scores from my To-Do List, but my transcripts are still on there.

I have remaining pre-reqs so I think that may be why? I did leave a message for admissions to clarify they have a copy of my transcript.

Anyone else feeling their anxiety creeping up? :wideyed:

Hello to all!

So I decided to jump into the UTHSC pool for the Pacesetter program as well. I submitted my application for Summer about a week ago. I know the program, but wasn't very well-read on the application process or admission standards, and have spent the time since then educating myself.

I will also be applying for the Fall semester, as I still have a few pre-reqs to complete, as well as an error that is being corrected on my transcript by LSC Kingwood; all of which will increase my GPA from where it is now.

I applied with:

Pre-req GPA: 3.42

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI overall: 94

Math: 100

Vocab: 96

Grammar: 92

Reading: 92

AP: 88

Critical Thinking: 900 (although, no longer required as I understand it)

Curious to see where my stats put me, as it appears as if there is no real rhyme or reason to how people are selected.

Probably worth mentioning that I am already an LVN of 5 years. I haven't read a whole lot about how, if at all that affects the application, but they do ask that when you apply.

Planning on attending the information session on February 8th. Good luck to everyone!

What number is everyone calling with questions about their To-Do lists and such? Is it the admissions number? My transcripts are still listed and with the deadline coming up it's making me nervous!!í ½í¸…

As long as you have filed your application by the application deadline you should be ok. My HESI scores are still en route as well. I have only called once and it was 7135002106. There are several different ones though and they will transfer you if you arent in the right place.

My HESI scores are also on the way, but I am very nervous that they will not make it in time. I also have 1 remaining transcript on my To Do List.
