UTHSC Summer 2017

Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

I was thinking about applying in the summer. If I understand correctly, if we start in the summer we will have a short first semester and our last semester will also be short where we do the most of our clinicals. I want to start in the summer but I also want the most time I can get for the last semester clinicals.

That is what I understood as well. Since the first and last semesters will be in the summer, they will be shorter rather than if you started in the spring or fall. I will have finished the pre-req's in Spring of 2017 and am trying to start right away. I was told that the application pool was not as big in the summer so there is more of a chance to get in. The application for the Summer opened April 1st if I'm not mistaking.

I think I'm going to wait for the fall semester. I'm super excited too. I'll be done in the spring as well so I'll have a very boring summer. Good luck, I hope you get in! I'll (hopefully) be right behind you.

I am applying for Spring 2017 acceptance, but if I don't get in then, I'll apply for summer and then fall terms.

Application for Spring is already in!

Hello,

I plan on applying for Summer 2017 also at UT Health Houston.

Currently I am attending a junior college outside of Houston, finishing my pre-nursing classes.

I have 5 classes left which I plan on taking through this Fall and Spring 2017 semesters: chemistry, microbiology, statistics, philosophy, and nutrition.

Studying to re-take my HESI, as I did not get the score I wanted initially.

So, that should be done prior to August (the start of my semester).

Are you also applying to UTMB? I know they require an extra science and the TEAS instead of HESI.

I am contemplating UTMB also, but leaning more towards UT Health.

Hey Jenn,

How was the application process? Any parts that you got stuck on, or additional information they required that you didn't anticipate?

The application was pretty simple. Nothing sticks out in my brain that was difficult.... It was pretty straight forward.

I applied for Spring '17!!! I also applied to UTA (Online) and TWU Med Center, because I have to stay in Houston. It was very straight-forward and I have called with questions several times and everyone is super polite. I'm so nervous checking application status everyday...

pappa22v~

what is your gpa/science gpa/hesi?

Have you taken the TEAS yet? I am on August 3 for another school

Your HESI grades are awesome! Did you have to repeat it?

I am very weak in math, and unfortunately failed that portion.

These are my grades for each section:

Math 54

Anatomy 92

Reading comprehension 90

Grammar 78

Vocabulary 88

Critical Thinking 900

I plan on retaking it soon probably in September sometime.

I felt strong about my knowledge of everything but math prior to taking the test.

Any recommendations on the study guide, study habits? I have the Elsevier study guide currently.

My overall GPA is 3.56

Pre-requisite GPA is 3.66

Science GPA is 3.5

Thanks for any recommendations!
