UTHSC Summer 2017

Published

Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

I got my transcript evaluation today. It shows I'm missing the prerequisite I knew I was missing but they did not accept my history. Both my history classes were accepted by UH for graduation. Is there a petition process or anything? I could take them in the short term coming up, but that'll be sort of a lot.

I don't have the evaluation in front of me, but at the info session she said there are specific guidelines outlined on the cover sheet if you find discrepancies. She asked that you follow those steps rather than call them.

Hi guys!

I recently found this forum and have read that many of you guys have received transcript evaluations. I have not yet received mine and was wondering if there are others on the same boat or if I should be concerned...

thanks! I checked the front and it just had a few email addresses. I emailed them. Hopefully I'll hear something soon so I know if I need to sign up for those classes!

which terms did you apply?

is summer term consider to be full time student?

How long is the 2nd semester?

did you get any grants?

Hey there! I work nights these days so it takes me a little bit to get to your questions, but I am happy to answer them.

1. I only applied for the Spring 2016 term -- I got in on my first attempt.

2. The summer term is still considered full term. You take the exact same classes and do the exact same work as the other semesters during the summer, just in a shorter period of time. This is why the summer term is often regarded as "rough" by students.

3. All of the normal (non-summer) semesters are the same length (approx. 16 weeks).

4. I did not get any grants because of my financial situation, but I know a few people who have received them.

I would call/visit them just to make sure. Student Affairs and the Registrar are notoriously sloppy with their transcripts, especially if transferring from UH for some reason.

Let me know if y'all have any other questions!

Hi guys!

I attended the information session and think I saw a few of you there but was too shy to say anything! Has anyone heard anything?

I was waitlisted for the Spring 2017 term so I re-applied for summer, thinking that it would give me a leg up but apparently I just get thrown back into the pile:nailbiting:

I think we should be hearing very soon. When I was waitlisted, the applications deadline was September 1st. I found out October 24h so only a month and a half from the deadline and I think they let waitlist/denied people know last.

I'm hoping to hear soon and keeping my fingers crossed!! Good luck to everyone!

Don't worry!

I am currently taking pathophysiology, pharmacology, adult health care 1, and health assessment with one lab and clinicals finally start this upcoming week.

It's intensive but the professors are EXTREMELY good and want you to pass so it makes life ten times easier. However, I don't have as much free time as I used to but I still have time to go on dates with my boyfriend or take a night off. However, you need to plan accordingly so you are not behind. There is never enough time, its best to go over what you learned that same day for at least an hour and then study for your upcoming test.

It is very doable. However, it is only if you are a good planner. :)

hey Sophie,

How intensive is the reading?

is it pretty much straight forward?

are you taking pharmacology right now?

are the weekends enough time to review or catch up on your reading?

sorry for these many questions. :shy:

Call them immediately!!!!!!!!!!! And ask them why theyre not accepting it. Or go in person so they dont put you off the application. Asap!!!

Also heads up everyone!!! If you did not receive a transcript evaluation, it doesn't mean anything!! A lot of people got accepted without ever receiving one. But its good to call and ask if your classes are satisfied :) they also have a list of the accepted courses when you check the prerequisites.

ALSO!!!! They tend to send out acceptance letters two weeks prior the actual day. Keep checking MyUTH, i found out there first and then later on got my acceptance letter.

I agree with everything that Sophie has said....it is intense, but very doable!!!!

Ok guys,

o know I have one.

lets try to count ourselves.

i am one!
