Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!
Hi everyone!
I just want to thank y'all for this thread. After applying and not getting in for the Spring, I was bummed, until I learned of this site! I've applied for the Summer, and hope that we all get in for Summer. I wasn't able to go to the info session, so thank you to those who went and gave us the insight. I just wish that they'd let us know why that "view application document" link won't work:down:. I hope and pray that this is our semester! Best wishes, everyone!
Hey, from what time to what time are classes and how many time a week?when do you start clinicals?
do you get to have some personal time?
how much did you spend on books, supplies and scrubs?
how are the classmates - quiet, not social, friendly, humble?
Hello!
1. It depends on the semester. For the most part, classes start 8~9am and end 4pm or earlier. This is not every day -- you'll have this schedule for like 3 days of the 5 day work week. In our J-1 semester, we had Health Assessment from 8am - 9am on Mondays (with lab being an additional couple hours depending on when you are scheduled). Tuesday was Care I + Lab from 9am - 1pm (you wont have Lab once clinicals start). Wednesday was the busier day with Pharmacology from 9am-12pm and Pathophysiology from 1pm-4pm. Thursday OR Friday is when you have your clinicals (you get to submit your preference).
2. You start in the fourth week of the semester or so. Before then, you will have Care I lab where they prepare you with skills checkoffs.
3. You definitely get personal time. Please use it! Otherwise you'll go insane lol. Things get more reading-heavy in the later semesters though.
4. For books, some classmates will share eBooks with you, but in general, I still rented my books from Amazon which is a huge $$$ saver! Maybe
5. I've found that the classmates tend to vary a lot between the classes. Most of them are friendly for sure -- some classes help one another more than other. I've noticed in the past that summer cohorts tend to be more studious because they have a faster-paced first semester. The culture at UTHSC definitely isn't cutthroat or anything so just relax and do your best!
Let me know if you have any other questions!!

Let me know if you have any other questions!!
which terms did you apply?
is summer term consider to be full time student?
How long is the 2nd semester?
did you get any grants?
Hello everyone!!! I am currently a J1 and have completed my first round of exams as a new student. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. For sure what I can tell you, do not rely on stats. They choose randomly, don't know the system but it's for sure random!!!
hey Sophie,
How intensive is the reading?
is it pretty much straight forward?
are you taking pharmacology right now?
are the weekends enough time to review or catch up on your reading?
sorry for these many questions.
I got my transcript evaluation today. It shows I'm missing the prerequisite I knew I was missing but they did not accept my history. Both my history classes were accepted by UH for graduation. Is there a petition process or anything? I could take them in the short term coming up, but that'll be sort of a lot.

I was surprised that was the first time she heard about the "view application details" hyperlink.
