UTHSC Summer 2017

Published

Hi everyone, I just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON students who are applying for Summer 2017. I didn't see a thread created for this term yet. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin this long journey. Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

They said they are trying to let everyone know by then. I think she said the first one should be mid February! (Next week)

I don't even know if I am more excited or scared about thisí ½í¸±

Ugh so someone who applied for only fall has a blank link on their portal too.. I'm over trying to figure out these links! :banghead:

I was there, but didn't check in here. I'm still trying to decipher a few things, but I don't think they answered much that we didn't already know. The overall GPA issue is a little concerning. Two of them clearly said that your acceptance is solely based on Pre-Requisite GPA, Science GPA, & HESI, then she followed up saying that the selection committee looks at your "overall" academic history too. Isn't your overall GPA a big part of your academic history?:banghead:

Specializes in ER.

Im on my way home from info session. Ill have a full write up as soon as I get in front of my laptop.

Oh and I got to meet alexandriaaaa, which was awesome!

I was there. Lol

Very concerning considering the third one is probably right lol...

I have a degree from UT Austin and now have a 3.65 pre-req GPA, a 4.0 science GPA, 96% overall on HESI (100% in 2 sections including A&P and 910 CT) and I wasn't accepted for Spring. There were several accepted that had lower stats, so the only thing I can think of that did me in is my overall GPA which is probably around a 3.3 or 3.4. Sucks because I took majority of my classes when I was 16 years old & had no clue GPA would follow me this far lol. I've made A's in every class I've taken since returning to school, but of course I can't explain this since there is no place to do so on an application.

So the takeaway is... no one knows what they are REALLY considering. I have to agree with the past speculation that it's a random selection.

Did they say anything about the number of applicants for the Summer?

I believe it's also random selection from 3 categories - fair, good and great gpa and academy history.

iwas waitlisted this past term. Hopefully, they take that in consideration!

No she refused to answer that question, but did say that the number of applicants was on par with Summers past.

She meant overall academic history as in did you take anatomy, Chem, and micro at the same time etc. not your gpa

It's always nice to put a face to the name!

Not gonna lie the entire time I was like hmmm who here is Casey

I know what she said, but it's hard to believe that when they are analyzing those things your overall GPA doesn't get a glance. They should have fun looking at my overall academic history...4 universities and over 160 credit hours spanning the course of 20+ years.
