UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

Will UTHSC require titers once we complete all the immunizations??? I completed all my immunizations, but am still unsure if I should go ahead and wait to get the titers. I've called around for prices....omg each test is so EXPENSIVE!!!

Do I have to get a titer even though I have my shot records for Hep B shot, or do you have to get one period to show all of your immunizations you have ever had? and how much does that usually range, and how long does it take to get one (titers)? I want to make sure that when I apply there are no delay's or missing information.

Titers are used to check for immunity. Regardless if we've taken the whole series of shots some programs require titers. I'm just not sure if UTHSC requires titers. The highest quote I got was over a $100 for Varicella and the cheapest being Rubella at $35. I haven't made enough phone calls to really get a good indication of where they provide affordable titers. One clinic I called told me it takes less than 3 days to get results back on titer tests. Once again, I haven't made enough phone calls to figure out where the most affordable place I can recommend.

I sent my immunization in about 8 months ago when I applied to the Fall 2011 semester, and they took that hold off imediately. I sent my CPR in at the same time and that hold never came off. I called and they said that the CPR hold will not come off until I have been accepted into the program. So I am sitting, as of right now, with only one hold.

I didn't realize that we could send in our immunization records and CPR cards until we were accepted or I would have done so already! Do you think it's worth it to send them in or should I just wait?

Ok, Thank you, this is something that I would need to find out so I can work on that if needed. Thank you Chunky Munkey!

Me too, I want to start working on this. I don't want to wait until last minute to figure it out.

omg UTHSCSA and UTMB have already sent out acceptances. Come on, UT-H, COME ON!!

Mannn I wish you all could take stats with the professor I had at LSC Kingwood. I took his online class, but he offers an in-class one, too. He's a great professor. Something like 80 reviews on ratemyprofessor.com and his overall is still a 4.9 or something like that.

Good luck to everyone in stats! It is the weirdest kind of math you will ever take, and it sucks. I didn't take psych stats specifically because my general psych prof told me that that was the hardest class she had to take out of both her undergrad and grad classes @_@ yikes!

I could be completely wrong, but I do not think you have to provide titers. I for one have had the complete hep B series twice and I do not maintain the immunization for hep B. I do not believe they can require you to have a certain level as some people are unable to maintain the immunization. I work at Memorial Hermann and they provide all of these shots for me, but they will not repeat the hep b series a third time. Lastly, I sent them my immunization records only and they took the hold off. I am not sure if they took it off by mistake, but they took it off.

I believe that as long as your immunization records are up to date you will be fine.

One thing I did learn from reading last years thread for UT hopefulls Spring 2011 is that the process for getting a student loan is not something that happens over night. Many of the students from last year were behind the eight ball on getting their funding buttoned up towards the end. If you have not already done so, Everybody should go on to the FAFSA.gov website and apply for finacial aid if you are going to need assistance. You can list up to ten schools that you have applied to all at the same time. You do not have to have an acceptance letter before getting this process started.

This is the link to the immunization form...it looks like we might need a titer for the hep b series. Every other school I've applied to told me that the hep b titer is required no matter what and that you can't start clinicals without a POSITIVE titer result. Not sure if UTHSC Houston is the same...

Well, I looked at the immunization record that I turned in, and it does include titer results. Where I work automatically goes back and test you after immunization. So maybe that is why the hold was taken off, but I did not submit this form you have a link to. I am thinking as long as you are able to produce a document with everything listed that they are looking for you do not have to turn in this form. Anways, I believe for those that get in, they will have a better understanding of what is needed when they send out the admission packets and once your able to attend the orientation.
