UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

Hey, fellow applicant!

Anything is possible, so put your best self forward! :D My statistics are currently in a disarray of sorts (e.g., in summer school at the moment), but here's what I do know: overall GPA- 3.67, science/pre-reqs GPA- 3.5. I don't try to focus on GPAs, test scores, etc because it's subjective. As we all know, each committee has their own formulas, criteria...hocus pocus...to find what they deem as their "perfect" applicant. There will be some "hits" and certainly some "misses." As for me, it is important to present my best self. If I fall short...that's o.k. Learning and growing is going through the process...and it's all a process. Thank you so much for starting this thread! I'm looking forward to the journey! :D Good luck and many blessings to you!

hi.... I will also be applying to ut houston son along with Hcc ad San Jacinto college.....

PreGPA-3.2

SienceGPA-3.0

overall-3.1

I will be taking stats and microbiology fall 2011...pushing for A's!!!!

and to katybusymom.....my gpa is low as well but hey you never know at first i was just gonna apply to the community college but I see it will take me about the same time to finish either way so i might as well shoot for my bsn.... good luck to you all.

Yay!! I'm so excited not to be alone in my journey.

@Mocachild, you're right, every school has their own way of figuring out our GPA's and it's VERY irritating, but for the sake of this thread, I listed my stats according to UT's calculation method. My overall GPA is not so great thanks to my first 2 years of college when I was much younger and much less ambitous:( I was disheartened to find out that UT had done away with the interview process, as this would have been my chance to explain my earlier bad grades and my more recent AWESOME ones :)

@Caringhands88, if I'm not mistaken, I could have sworn that I saw someone get an acceptance letter from UT this past fall with similar stats to yours. The main thing being that the overall GPA was above 3.0, which yours is.

I'm also applying to UTA, HCC and Lonestar as well. I had planned all along to go to UTA to finish my BSN, but since I live in Houston, and UTA doesn't have any clinical sites, that poses a major problem for me and any other Houston people that are in UTA's program.

I'm taking Patho, Pharm, Stats, and Dev. Psych this fall to complete my pre-req's with UTA. I'll add Nutrition to that as well, if i hear positive news from UTHSC:)

@katybusymom

There are currently two hospitals that are in contract with UTA for Spring 2012 clinicals: HCA Clear Lake and Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont. There are several contracts that are still pending and CON is hopeful that more will be secured. I live in Houston as well, so I have a vested interest also. Secondly, it has been brought to my attention by a former classmate who is now attending UTHSC's Bacc2 program, that pharm will not be transferable. I have already taken this class and cringe at the thought of having to retake this.

@Mochachild...yes, I knew of the hospitals in Clear Lake and Beaumont....but neither is IN Houston. Do YOU want to drive to Beaumont every day? I don't. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that UTA kicks it into overdrive and signs up more hospitals ASAP.....ones that are actually IN Houston.

Hmmmm.....I didn't know Pharm wouldn't transfer, yikes. Just think how much ahead you'll be of everyone else at UT Houston when you have to take it over again :) Positive thoughts !!!

@katybusymom

Yes, clinicals in Houston would be ideal for sure; however, the reality is that there are very few hospitals that will allow nursing students to complete clinicals and of those, everyone is competing for those spots. I do not know of any nursing student, former or current, that didn't have to travel (oftentimes a great distance) to complete clinicals. We shall see...:D

Any word on other hospitals added? I really hope they don't make us wait until November to tell us if we got in or not. My hair is already falling out :(

So sorry, I really should have posted that last comment on another thread......please ignore.

Hello everyone! I'm also applying to TWU, UTMB, and PV in addition to UThsc. I'm hoping one of these schools will accept me. How did everyone do with their TEAS and HESI?
