This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
ok...so while we're waiting, shouldn't we get the CPR and immunizations complete. And what about background check and drug screen...do you think we need to have those done? I imagine they'll have us wait and then advise us on where they would want us to have these services performed. Oh, and is the CPR and first aid suppose to be done anywhere in particular? And if we get this stuff done do anyone know where or how to submit it? Sorry for all the questions I really just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row and all this waiting is driving me nuts!!
I got my acceptance email from UTHSCSA today, and I'll have to say... everybody complains that nursing schools are all so disorganized; however, UTHSCSA has really impressed me with the timeliness and professionalism in their application and acceptance process. It seems to be very organized to me, which I agree is odd.
One down, 3 to go... still crossing my fingers, as UTHSCSA is my last choice...
Good luck with everybody in here!
L8Blumer, the cpr has to be a cpr for health care providers and you can take it anywhere I assume. The Junior league has them for free...you just have to sign up. As far as the immunizations...you should begin those now as some are a series of shots. You won't have to have the full series done but should have them started. The other things like drug test etc, I would wait until they give you the specific information as to where and how.
i just got my interview email from utmb and it is not my first choice either only because i live in houston ..... im waiting on ut houston and pvamu college of nursing ...... ut houston is very competive and pvamu is one of the few schools to have two accrediations ... the only con is that i hear that they r very unorganized .... they r both still very good schools
on the other i was encouraged to apply to utmb because i have heard that they go above and beyond when helping the grads find jobs and for that reason i think it would be worth the compute??? does anyone know students at either three of the schools???
Ariel, I have two friends who are enrolled at UTMB and they absolutely love the school. They say the profs are so helpful and if you're falling behind, they meet with you to help you succeed. My boyfriend also graduated from UTMB and he liked it (graduated with honors).
I wanna add that I really enjoyed my time on Galveston, too. Some people say it's so dangerous and blah, blah but I didn't find that to be the case at all. I lived in a little shack off P and 21st, walked around everywhere (even at night- ESPECIALLY at night) and had I not moved to Houston, I'd be going to UTMB for sure.

I e-mailed them today about not getting a transcript eval. I hope they get back to me soon!
I know this question has been asked before, but I went back a few pages and couldn't find it. How many people do they accept? Thanks!
