This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
I got my acceptance email from UTHSCSA today, and I'll have to say... everybody complains that nursing schools are all so disorganized; however, UTHSCSA has really impressed me with the timeliness and professionalism in their application and acceptance process. It seems to be very organized to me, which I agree is odd.One down, 3 to go... still crossing my fingers, as UTHSCSA is my last choice...
Good luck with everybody in here!
WOW heavyk, that's awesome. I'm sure you'll get into UTHSC with your stats. Did UTHSCSA have an interview/writing sample? Either way, that turn around time is killer. I'm hoping UT- Houston will have some news for us next week

UTHSCSA did things in waves. First you had to apply through NursingCAS. Those who were qualified were contacted by email and sent an invitation to take the TEAS-V. Those who scored satisfactorily on the TEAS were emailed a supplemental application, which we had about a week to fill out and submit. The supplemental app had 3 essay questions (hardly essays at 800 character limits). Then in about a month, they send out the acceptance emails. That's it... no interviews.
It's actually a really good system... it's designed so that if you don't have the necessary stats or if they know you're not going to make it, then you don't have to go through the whole application process. If you DO pass one wave, you'll get contacted for the next, and you only have the pay for that portion (application fee, cost to submit transcripts to the school) if you get to that point.
So it saves the applicants who AREN'T going to make it in anyways a little money and time (they don't have to wait for the denial letter because they already know they didn't make the next wave).
It just seemed like a really good system to me, and it was by FAR the easiest. They have been the most informative, and every time I call their admissions office, they actually PICK UP and will sit there and talk to you with until they have answered your question or fixed your problem.

My god, it's so logical and efficient. Other schools should really follow their example. What was the other school you applied to, other than UTHSC and UTHSCSA? AND would you move to San Antonio if you did end up going to UTHSCSA? I'm asking because if the move was easy and I didn't get into UTHSC, I would def app to that school.

We would definitely move over there, assuming I don't get in to any programs here. I think it is actually much easier to get in to also, just to let you know. I applied to UTHSC, TWU, UTMB and UTHSCSA (in order of preference).
NCLEX pass rates 2010pv = 97.64%
ut houston = 97. 48 %
ut san antonio = 88.81 %
utmb =94.07 %
Don't to forget to consider that these are only numbers for the people who made it through the program with their BSN. The 99.7% for UT Houston doesn't include the many people that were dropped because they couldn't keep their grades up, or quit because it was too hard. So even though their numbers are higher, they do have less people sitting for the test overall at the end of their program. It only means that you have a better chance of passing the NCLEX if you make it that far.If you can make it through the grueling course there... you can most definitely pass the NCLEX.
Just a perspective
Don't forget TWU! lol TWU's first time NCLEX pass rate in 2010 was 98%! They have an excellent program. I know someone who just graduated with her bachelor's from the Houston campus and got a job at Methodist before she even had her NCLEX scores, and had a few other job offers as well.
Anyway, congrats heavykevy on your first acceptance letter! The wait for UTHSC and TWU is wayyyy to long for me (they are the only schools I applied to).

I said P and 21st but it was actually P and 19th - right behind the Hotel Galvez. It's a purple carriage home that's been converted to 4 studio apts. Super awesome and the land lords are chill. If you drive up the street, there should have a FOR RENT sign. You can check out the other homes also because a lot of people rent out their converted carriage homes and back yard garages for students at a low, low price.
*The distance from UTMB is about a mile. Biking is a breeze cause there's little traffic and if you'd rather drive, parking is pretty easy around the school.
