UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

@katybusymom. WOW!!! Great scores. You knocked AP out of the park, sweet.

Did you guys have biology and chemistry on your HESI?

Did you guys have biology and chemistry on your HESI?

It's on there, but you can skip it. You only need to take the required sections. I believe there are 8.

@katybusymom i am sooo happy for you.. where did you take your test and how long did u study for? and can u run down the materials again for the a&p section again also study materials as well. here are the materials i have: a&p for dummies, hesi evolve test prep book,and hesi a2 secrets( if any one needs it just let me know). congrats to your scores katybusymom.. your on your way, those are great test scores:yeah:

just my luck all hesi testing dates are filled up till sep2

@taylorxteddy your score are great too!!!! Wow i really wish i could be in you guys shoes with this test behind me.

@katy MAJOR CONGRATS!!!

@ sana, sorry to hear, there is the fall :)

@Sana08, Have you tried calling the Prometric testing center directly? I had an appointment for my test at Noon yesterday. I arrived at 11:30am and went right back to take my test without waiting. The waiting room didn't have anyone in it.

I know the online system books appointments in 4 hour blocks, but I finished my test early and when I left, the testing room was not full. Maybe if you call the testing center directly, they can squeeze you in? It's worth a shot. Or maybe they will let you come and wait in the lobby to see if there are any "no shows" and you could take their place?

@gilly, you will, when are you taking your exam?

@Gillty, I took my test at a Prometric testing center on Harwin.

Yes, I studied. I did all of the math problems in the Hesi A2 Study Guide. It's all math from Junior High, but who remembers how to do any of it without a calculator? I sure didn't. I needed to refresh my memory, and the book did just that. The book was also sufficient for Grammar, Vocab and Reading.

The Vocab and General Knowledge sections are combined on the test. As long as you have had A&P and know the lingo, then you should be fine.

I used my A&P textbook to study from, not the Study Guide.

@katybusymom WOW on the A&P score! That's all I can say. Someone knows their anatomy and physiology! :) I think with your HESI scores you have an excellent chance of getting in. Don't stress about your overall gpa. I really don't think that it will matter as much as your pre-req and science gpas and test scores. Thanks, btw. I definitely studied this time. One question, you mentioned not being able to use a calculator? You're not supposed to get one for the TEAS, but there was an on-screen calculator during the HESI both times I took it. Did you not have this?

@sana08 I only waited a week to re-take mine. There is nothing on either the Prometric/Elsevier or UT-H website that says anything about a waiting period between re-takes, and another poster mentioned he called to ask and they said there was no waiting time. I don't think that you can call the testing center directly, because I remember reading something about them saying that the center cannot schedule you (only Prometric can), so I would call Prometric at whatever 800 number is listed on the website and tell them your situation. Just as katybusymom said, there was hardly anyone in my testing center either. Five other people maybe, but 15 computers.

@Gillty thanks!

Does anyone know what we need to do about TSI/THEA scores if we have never had to take either of those tests? Also, I just requested that my transcript be sent to UT a couple of days ago. Do I have to wait for them to receive it and process it before I fill out the application? Thanks! :)

@saraiish i plan to pace my self and take my test in early october to give me time to study and see what's on there. i'm planning to apply for the fall 2012 at ut-h. i still have this semester and next to go and i am done with all my classes. so far so good on my gpa.. i just need to get this under my belt and i can stop pulling my hair out and worrying. do you have any idea what to study for the ct part of the test?
