UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

FOR AP - its very basic . Questions like why is a child prone to ear infection than someone older ..bc the tube is shorter. Know dorsal, anterior, medial, etc. Where do T cells originate? Thymus. What the mitral valve separates. Know hormones for example ADH - what it does. what is considered the "master gland" - the pituitary. ummm know what parts of the brain does what like the hypothalamus, cerebrum, cerebellum, thalamus. Hollow organs. I had questions like this..hope this helps

dont stress too much and take your time!!!!!!!!!

Im still going to apply for the heck of it :/

Thank you! Did you use the review book from evolve? And did you study for the critical thinking portion? I just took the practice A&P test in the back and thought it was a little more in depth than I was expecting... And you should totally apply! You're gpa is awesome, and if you're really feeling bad about your HESI results (which I think are good too) you can always try to schedule a retake in the next few days!

@sana08 if you really feel bad about your scores, retake it quickly! Your gpa is really good though. I made a 72% on that portion.. I think I might have rushed it, but I'm retaking it tomorrow so we will see. I hope the V-2 questions aren't too hard. I defintely don't think your scores are bad, though, if you decide to apply with what you already have.

@Cristina No I didn't use any evolve review materials. I dont think you can really study for critical thinking...? Just different scenarios - who you would help first. I studied the day before so I deserve the grade I got! If youve taken AP just look back at your notes to refresh your memory. Thanks guys Im going to apply with what I have just bc we only have two attempts and I dont want to take it again right after and then be screwed!

is UTHS the only place you guys are applying to?

@Sana08 Thanks for the heads up on the hormones and brain stuff, I studied that last minute last night and it really helped on my test today! I'm so relieved to finally get that over with...and you were right about the critical thinking-- there's really no way to study lol I felt a little uneasy about that part but it all turned out well, thankfully!

@taylorxteddy Good luck tomorrow, I'm sure you'll do great!

Also, I'm applying to UTMB, TWU Dallas, and UTHSC San Antonio as well. Anyone else??

I'm only applying to TWU and here. I can't really leave Houston at this point. I am feeling a lot better about my odds of getting into TWU, though, which is unfortunate because UT was my first choice. Thanks for the good luck wish! :D

Same I just want to go anywhere in Houston for Spring 2012, I dont want to wait till Fall!

goodluck everyone!!!!!!

and when yall applied for UTHS, did yall send your TSI scores or THEA scores or whatever that is to the school code they provided. I mean i took the ACTS and TAKS back in highschool - i just dont understand what were suppose to put on the application

@sana08 i don't know about that part of the app... I didn't have to take ither of those because of TAKS and SAT scores... So how can i submit scores for them? I was worried about that...

Retook the HESI today! CT went up from 780 to 860, AP from 72 to 88, grammar 86 to 96, and vocab from 86 to 90. Reading went down (96 to 90) and math from 100 to 98. Oh well... 92.3% overall. Yay! Much better. No repeated questions whatsoever, BUT CT was EXACTLY the same. Weird. Anyways, time to finish my apps and play the waiting game. -_-

@taylorxteddy how long did you wait to retake your HESI? And did you study a lot inbetween? I want to retake mine to get atleast a 90

Hi Guys,

I took my Hesi for UTHSC today :)

A&P: 100%

Math: 94%

Vocabulary and General Knowledge: 96%

Grammar: 88%

Reading Comprehension: 91.3%

Critical Thinking: 800

Overall Score: 93.86%

So I will be applying with a 3.326 Pre-req GPA, and 3.50 Science GPA. The only thing that is seriously hurting me is my overall GPA of 2.855 from classes taken when I was young and dumb :(

They are processing my final transcripts right now. Yay!! I am so excited to be done with that test. OMG, I was sooooo stressed.

@taylorxteddy, Congrats on those great scores:)
