Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

Also to those wondering I was accepted the second wave and am still incomplete as I am currently in my last semester of pre-reqs. I haven't received a transcript eval so I'm not sure what my GPA is for them but based off my calculations:

Science GPA: 3.7

Pre-req GPA: 3.6

HESI overall: 93%

HESI CT: 890

HESI A&P: 96%

when was the "second wave" sent out (Just for clarification)? I thought the 20th was the only thus far until today when waitlisted was sent.

I'm not sure if it was the "second wave" per se but all I know is that my portal showed my acceptance on the 21st, the day after the first people saw it on their portals. I was referring to waves as in daily acceptances. Not sure what if one wave is considered multiple day combined. But this morning I received an official acceptance email.

Ah..gotcha, Thanks. I don't know either, I guess that could be wave 2...Congrats btw

If it still shows as incomplete on your portal, how did you find out you were accepted?

After clicking accept and paying the deposit my status went back to incomplete because I am still taking pre-req courses. I also received an official acceptance email this morning.

Have anyone tried to walk-in to admission office to discuss their transcript evaluation? I have received mine, and it showed 2 classes that I need to retake. I have emailed them without response.

Given almost all of fall classes had started, does anyone know schools that offer mini-semester between now and next January?

Thank you in advance.

They offer a winter mini at most schools. But science classes are usually not offered for the mini such as bio or chem

I'm also preparing for a rejection status. They usually do acceptances over a 3-4 day period, followed by waitlisting, and then rejections on the last day (November 15 for us).

They should really be more transparent about how they evaluate applicants for admission. They say pre-req GPA, science GPA, and HESI scores, but that is clearly untrue. They say they take other factors into consideration, but I don't understand how because that is all of the information we're allowed to submit.

My final stats-

Pre-req GPA- 3.5

Science GPA- 4.0

Hesi- 96 overall, 100 A&P, 900 CT

*sigh*

I am not sure if this applies to every school but my aunt did her nursing associates at HCC and when she asked about the process, for a friend who got rejected who had a higher gpa than her, they told her that basically the nursing committee or board not sure what its called gets like a stack of applicants and they chose the best from their stack so like a 3.2 gpa might be the best in the stack of one person but a 3.2 might be one of the lowest in another person's stack. That was for HCC though, but I am not sure maybe they have a process similar to that one since the GPA's vary.

Thank you. I am in Houston area. Do you happen to have any recommendations?

That very much sounds like it makes sense. However, that doesn't make it appropriate.

I still haven't heard anything. I am pretty upset. I wanted this so bad but I don't see it happening now.
