Hello friends!
I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:
A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)
I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!
Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?
Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!!
Wait wait wait... we keep looking at GPA's and thinking it's a hard line. I fail to see that they would look at an English or Psych grad who only has the pre-req sciences, the same as a former Bio or Physics major. Most who have a previous degree in the sciences also have several dozen upper level science classes, i.e. orgo chem, pathophys, biomechanics. There has to be some kind of way they actually analyze this.
I have taken organic chemistry for science majors and wanted to use my A in that class instead of my C in general chem (difference in maturity level when I took these two classes) and they will not accept the organic chemistry grade. They said they will only look at freshman level chemistry as an equivalent. Makes no sense to me.. But whatever.
I hope there's a second round of acceptances, but I'm not sure there will be since they've already sent out waitlist emails. I'd think they'd just be taking people from the waitlist to be accepted at this point, wouldn't they? I haven't received a rejection (or anything else) yet, but I'm preparing for one now...
I'm also preparing for a rejection status. They usually do acceptances over a 3-4 day period, followed by waitlisting, and then rejections on the last day (November 15 for us).
They should really be more transparent about how they evaluate applicants for admission. They say pre-req GPA, science GPA, and HESI scores, but that is clearly untrue. They say they take other factors into consideration, but I don't understand how because that is all of the information we're allowed to submit.
My final stats-
Pre-req GPA- 3.5
Science GPA- 4.0
Hesi- 96 overall, 100 A&P, 900 CT
*sigh*

Do you have to retake the hesi for each time that you apply? Or can you use the previous score for a previous term you applied to?
