Hello friends!
I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:
A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)
I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!
Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?
Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!!
You need 6 hours of college math for a Bachelor's in any science, including nursing. It's no longer a pre-requisite for the program, however, the additional 3 hours are required as far as I know. That's pretty standard across the board throughout the US.
So as long as I pass the course, I wouldn't risk being dropped from the program since it's technically no longer a pre-requisite?
You should really talk to the school. According to Texas Core you only need 1 math course. However, as I previously stated, BS degrees require 2 math courses. This may be different because of the amount of science/mathematics that is a part of the program. You should ask the school so you do not get wrong information from us.
OK so I already accepted UTMB back in June. But recently I got accepted to TWU and now UTH. What should I do??? Can I still back out of UTMB even though I already paid the $200 deposit and accepted them? I think I would much rather go to UTH.
Yeah, you can back out but like other people said you will lose your deposit. I had to do the same I applied to two other schools as more of a backup because UTH was my top choice school. For School A I had to let them know by the 15th of Sep if I would be attending so I accepted since I had not heard back from any other schools. Then just this past week I got into School B, they offer a BSN program and are pretty good but it was a private school, I let SA know I would not be attending I did not say why just that I would not be continuing with their program and they just thanked me for letting them know. Now I had not heard back from UTH so I accepted SB, and literally 2 days later I get into UTH! So again although I felt very guilty I told SB I would not enroll and to please feel free to give my spot to the next eligible student. UTH was my first choice when applying to schools however, just two weeks ago when I spoke to admissions the lady was very adamant that we would not hear back until the 15th of Nov, I did not want to end up without acceptance into any program which is why I had accepted SB before their deadline. Do not feel bad or guilty your spot will go to a person who was wait listed who may be counting on that spot! I think it happens often, for the most part they just thank you for letting them know and they usually wish you the best.

They no longer require College Algebra. I know TWU hasn't for years.
UTHealth requires Stats. I also took a quantative math ( HCC calls it Math for Liberal Arts)
Only outstanding classes I have are Philosophy (finished in the first 8 weeks) and 4 hours of Chemistry--- I am finishing up lecture and lab classes at his semester.... halfway to the end :)
