Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

Ya, I guess it's time to mentally prepare for the rejection.

I'm not going to lie. Since waitlist letters started coming out, and I had not heard anything, I've been holed up in my office crying. I am pretty devastated.

Specializes in IMCU/PCU.

Last time I got rejected I received my rejection email on November 6th, but this was back in 2012.

Feeling hopeless.

Here are my stats:

Prereq: 3.29

Science: 3.0

HESI Overall - 93.6%

R. Comprehension- 94%

Grammar - 96%

Vocab - 94%

A&P - 84%

Math - 100%

CT: 880

Tesstex, those are really good stats! One thing I may mention is that when I went to the info session a couple of months ago, they had zero interest with regards to how much medical/nursing experience an applicant had. Many people asked that. I know sounds crazy, right? But what they were really interested in was applicants who had been working while taking on the prerequisite courses because it would give them idea of how you can handle their nursing school course load. They seemed very keen on that. Now if your medical experience was in the form of a job then I don't see why you wouldn't be a strong applicant based on your stats. Regardless good luck to you and all who are still waiting to hear back. Congrats to those that have been accepted!

I have been working, 2 jobs, both full-time, along with the Junior League of Houston (170 hours of volunteer service per year and demonstrated leadership) while taking my pre-requisites. This is why I am at a loss. I do not see any way to make myself a stronger applicant.

I'm not going to lie. Since waitlist letters started coming out, and I had not heard anything, I've been holed up in my office crying. I am pretty devastated.

Yeah, same here. Completely devastated that I have to push back my career plans even longer

I'm going to go ahead and submit another application for Summer. You should think about doing the same.

If if it helps any, I just called, & she said they haven't sent out all of the notifications for any one category (acceptances, waitlisted, or denials). I have a hard time believing this though.

@AHawkins I'd love for that to be true (not all have been sent out yet) but I'm with you, not sure if I believe that! One thing that has been consistent with UTH is their inconsistency with information they provide, but miracles can happen I suppose!

AHawkins, did they say if they had sent out any rejections yet?

That's very impressive and not easy to do. Keep your hopes even though it's not easy to do right now. I know of some people who haven't received a transcript eval nor a waitlist notice.

I didn't ask. I basically just asked if it was safe to assume I had been rejected since I know most acceptances had been sent out, and waitlisted applicants had been notified. To which she replied and said not all of any category has been sent out.

I don't believe that though. You really have to take every bit of info they relay with a grain of salt. I've been getting inconsistent answers (and sometimes straight up lies) from them for months, so... yeah.

I think each cycle must have a accept and waitlist.

There is no way all acceptance were sent out.

If its about work experience I graduated a year early while working full time at an amzing company.

I also started my MBA.

I have a feeling they look at our facebook pages and things they can google.

I worked and went to school part/full time. I am also a former, proud soldier of the US ARMY with one tour, honorable discharge, I have many awards from the Army and I was one of the top in my squad.

I am not asking the school for special treatment, but it almost seems like they just choose people at a random.

This does not make any sense.
