Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

Is there more than one thread going for UTHSC Spring 2017? Maybe we should consolidate

Hi everyone! I just submitted my application to the UT nursing program for Spring 2017. I'm super nervous and I've been reading through all the posts I can find, which I think is just making me more nervous lol. I truly hope I get in as this is my first choice school. My gpa is a 3.84 overall, 4.0 in sciences, and I did pretty well on my HESI: 92 in math; 100 in grammar, 100 in vocab; 98 in reading; 86 in A&P; 960 in critical thinking. Now there is just one more semester of pre-reqs left. They send out decisions in November so I'll be sure to post again to let everyone know whether I was accepted. Best of luck to everyone as we start this incredible journey!

wooo you go girl!

Hey guys! Wow! I haven't been getting notifications from this forum so I haven't checked it! Thanks for your input! I have figured somethings out:

  • They accept the highest replacement grade: If you made a low grade previously and retake the class, they will take the higher grade into account.
  • The GPA average of who they accept calculates to about overall 3.4+ and science 3.5+
  • A friend of a friend was an instructer for the school and he said that they actually look to see if you did any previous volunteer work at a hospital-- so make sure you apply at a hospital and volunteer if you want to up your chances! I've applied at methodist and st.joseph recently. (Plus it helps you see what hospitals are potential for nursing carreers) ... (PS private hospitals pay MORE)

ANYWHO hopefully that helps out! Let's keep posting updates and follow ups.

My stats:

-Science GPA: 3.5

-Overall GPA: 3.67

I STILL HAVE TO TAKE HESI!!!! :grumpy:

I am applying for UTHEALTH pacesetter program in JAN 17'

Those grades are awesome! I'm studying out of the HESI admission exam review. It has biology, physics, and chemistry too though. Should I skip over that and just study AP?

UTHSC only requires A&P for the HESI, so don't waste your time studying the other sciences!

Thanks for the info about being a volunteer! It looks like we're all on the right track, which is exciting!

I know! I'm anxious to see how everything unfolds. If we put all our effort into the testing and school gpas then we will definitely get positive results! Nothing comes easy.

Thanks for the information! So how do they consider volunteer work if they don't ask for it on the application? Where would they get that info? They didn't mention it online or at the info session, so I'm curious. To my understanding, they consider pre-req GPA, HESI score (with emphasis on the A&P score), and science GPA.

Hm that's a good question! I will ask and let ya know this week. I was shocked too bc I know that they did away with interviews years ago.

When I filled out my application for the school, it asked me about work & volunteer hx.
