Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

Checking in for this application period!

Prior Bachelor's degree- 3.3 overall

Prerequisite GPA- 3.5

Science GPA 4.0 (so far)

I took 60+ hours while in high school and wasn't thinking ahead, so my GPA isn't the best  I'm hoping that the courses that I take this summer/fall will help raise those numbers a bit. Hopefully I get decent scores on the HESI when I take it next month and increase my chance of being accepted.

This will be a long few months, but I am excited. Good luck to everyone!

Just took my Hesi exam and I didn't pass with best score. I am completely devastated right now! Unfortunately,- I'll be retaking the exam. Anyways, my scores are as follows:

Reading-82%

Grammar-94%

Vocabulary-82

Math-78%

A&P-36%

Critical Thinking-79%

I am really sorry to hear that. I am sure you will do great the second time! I am currently studying from the Elsevier hesi exam review book, since it had the best reviews online. Did you use any type of study book or any type of online resources to study? I will be taking the test this Tuesday and I am super nervous!

I studied from the book, I purchased the pocket prep app, and I watched YouTube videos. However, I only studied for 2 weeks because I was finishing up 4 classes, working full time, and taking care of three kids. I'm going to give myself a month to study for next time. Good luck on your exam!

That's a lot to handle! I've only been studying for about two week too, so I am just hoping for the best. Thank You for you wishes! :)

Hello Everyone!

I just finished taking the HESI! Although my scores are not that bad, I might retake it to see if I can improve in the grammar and vocab sections. I didn't think the test was that challenging, just long and tiring. If you give yourself at least a month to study, you should be golden. Unfortunately, I only studied for about two weeks. Here are my scores:

Overall: 90

Reading Comprehension: 88

Grammar: 86

Vocab: 86

A&P: 96

Math: 94

CT: 840

Also, does anybody know what a good score for critical thinking is?

Congrats, your scores are awesome! I went to an info session back in April and they said to be competitive critical thinking should be at least 850 and every other section should be 85% or better. I think you'll be just fine with the scores you have. The test is expensive and long so why retake it when you've already done so well?

Thank you so much for boosting my confidence! :) Honestly, I am not sure if i will retake the test again. I am just scared the scores are not good enough, especially for the critical thinking part. However, I have been reading threads from previous years and the scores and GPAs are all over the place, which makes me feel a lot better too. I guess if it's meant to be, it's meant to be.

No problem and you're absolutely right, it is what it is! We have nothing to lose if we don't make it in the first time we apply. I'm applying to several other schools as well so I won't put all my eggs in one basket. They could all accept me, just one accept me, or they could all deny me. At least I know I tried and I didn't let the odds discourage me.

Those are great scores @barrereb! I honestly would not retake it, but I would talk to an adviser for it too! Congrats! I am retaking my Hessi sometime in July. I have taken it before and made an overall 85, but I wanted to increase my A&P portion along with vocab! I also tried to look at my previous test scores on the Elsevier website to look at the date I took, but I couldnt find. Anyone have any idea how to retrieve my test? Maybe I should just call Elsevier? Are you ladies and gents applying anywhere other than UT?

FutureRNMelanie: You are so right. The important thing is to not give up :)

Nurse2bkd00: Thank You! I will definitely try to talk to an advisor! From what I've seen, people tend to increase their scores dramatically their second time they take it. So that's a good thing! I took the Hesi at Lonestar, and the lady inputed my scores to my profile in Elsevier right when I finished. I am guessing every school does it differently. I would call the testing center you took the test at, and then maybe call Elsevier if the testing center can't help you. As for schools, UT is the only one I can apply to right now. I just finished my first year of college, so I barely had enough time to squeeze enough pre reqs for UT's Spring application deadline. If I don't get accepted in this term, at least I will be able to apply to more schools for the summer and fall terms of 2017.
