Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

@barrereb - I took mine at Lonestar too! Weird. Yes, I will definitely call Elsevier tomorrow. Well that sounds like a good plan! I plan to apply to 3 and hopefully ill get into one! I am taking my TEAS on Friday, so hopefully ill do well.

Good luck on the Teas, I took it on Monday and failed miserably! It was the hardest test I have ever taken in my life! I only passed the English and Language portion, I'll be sure to read the study guide from start to finish before I tackle that best again. Good luck to you on the Teas and applying.

I heard it was harder than the HESSI. Hopefully I pass it! Thank you!(:

I've submitted my application and turned in my HESI scores and transcripts. My MyUTH account says "initiated" next to HESI scores, and two of my transcripts and my third transcript was taken off of the "To Do List." Does anyone know what they mean by "initiated"? I sent the transcripts quite a while ago and I took the HESI using their institution code.

I am also applying for the Spring 2017 term.

My stats are:

Cumulative GPA: 3.5 ish ( I have been to 2 different schools: got a 3.014 the first time around in 88-91--and I have a 4.0 this time around. Have approximately the same amount of hours at each one. )

PreReq GPA: 3.88 ( still have to take Statistics(summer) and Philosophy (taking intro to Ethics in Fall)

Science GPA: 4.0 (all complete, but may have to retake chemistry due to it being so old, and Im not sure if it is the right course)

Hesi: 94.8 total

Reading: 86

A&P: 92

Math: 96

Vocal: 100

Grammar: 100

Critical Thinking: 910

I submitted my application Sunday. Now the LONG wait starts......

I am also applying to HCC ADN program since it also accepts the HESI.

I am thinking of taking the TEAS V so I can apply to Wharton Jr College ADN and TWU.

My first choice is UTH since it is a 15 month program.

Your scores are so good! Congrats! It seems like you have a great chance at being selected. Any tips for the HESI? (Particularly the critical thinking section) I'm taking it Thursday.

I retook the Hesi last week and did ok on every section except for the A&P section. Although I scored higher the second time around, it was still not high enough to apply for the program. I plan on retaking it for a third time after I complete A&P II. Third time will either be a charm or three strikes your out. I am worried that UT will not consider my app due to me having to take the Hesi three times just to pass one section. My stats are as follows:

Math 84%

Reading 82%

Grammar 88%

Vocab 88%

A&P 64% (36% on the first attempt)

Critical Thinking 890

Thanks!

I am hoping that I've done enough, but I've heard you never know with UTH:)

I'm an older student and really want to get in this time!

I studied the elsevier exam review book 3rd edition quite extensively.

I would suggest reviewing A&P from your class notes in addition to the study guide. The guide is too general. I wish I would've reviewed AP 1 a bit more.

The vocab is directly from the study guide.

The math wasn't too bad. It has a built in calculator. What I wasn't prepared for in the math section was the fact that some of them were NOT multiple choice. It's was just compute this and enter your answer in a box for some of them.

know your ratios very well!

The critical thinking section I couldn't find anything to study for it. it was the weirdest section. Just read them fully and keep in mind what is most important: physical before psychological. Airway, breathing, circulation....

They say there are not wrong answers on that section, just better and best answers you need to determine which is which and choose.

my suggestion is to relax on the critical thinking section and go with your gut

Did you find it to be a lot easier the second time around? I would try anyway! Maybe they'll take the fact that you hadn't taken A&P 2 yet into account? I know Texas A&M takes that into account when looking at scores. Anyway, you should definitely try for a third time. I'm nervous because I haven't taken A&P II yet either, but I'm hoping for the best.

Thank you for your encouraging words, I will definitely try it one more time. I though about applying to Texas A&M but they seem more competitive than UT or any other schools. I think as long as you study every day for a month or so, you'll do just fine. I had to squeeze in full-time work, summer classes, and kids into my study time.

Thanks for the advice! *fingers crossed*
