Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

No announcements yet. I am so annoyed right now. I am taking philosophy with the WORST professor ever! HE HAS THE WORST RATINGS OF ALL TIMES but I was forced to take him because I am hoping to get into UTHSC for spring so no time to be registering at another school.

Worst part, he is the only philosophy professor in my school...

HOPE I GET A B. An A is way too hard to get.

I am sorry to hear about your experience with your philosophy teacher. I just finished up my Intro to Ethics that counts as my philosophy credit. I had a great time taking this class. It was hard work, and made me think, and made me write ALOT, but I think that I learned alot from it. My confidence in my writing skills is increased due to the class also!

I wonder if we will hear later then last years Spring class.....with our deadline being extended to Sept 1?

I just wish I could know one way or the other now, this waiting is killing me :)

Jenmv,

My favorite class by far in all of undergrad was Ethics! I had an amazing professor, may he rest in peace. He became ill towards the end of the semester and passed away a few years ago, but I think about him and that class all the time! It changed my life, and I learned a great deal about myself in the process too.

The one class I really did not enjoy was Sociology. Not because of the subject matter, but because I felt like there were too many topics to cover, and we did not really get a chance to dive into the material enough.

Hi! I applied in August and received my transcript evaluation two weeks ago. They didnt accept my Statistics course because it was a transfer and they didn't recognize the class prefix, so I spoke with someone in the registrar's office who advised I needed to email supporting documentation to prove the courses are equal so that it could transfer over. I haven't heard anything and it's almost been two weeks, so I'm kind of nervous. I'd hate for that to be the reason I don't get in. I called on Friday and left a message, but haven't heard anything yet. I will follow up again with them today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

@kcastl1 good luck, that sucks, I'm sorry you have to deal with this! I have read others experiencing the same issues and getting them worked out, just annoy the hell out of UTH until it's straightened out!

Hello everyone,

I have been reading through this thread for awhile but have finally decided to introduce myself. I applied to UT a couple of weeks before the deadline and my stats are:

Overall GPA: 3.9

Science GPA: 4.0

HESI Overall: 92 I believe

I quit my job a year ago to pursue my career in nursing and I am super excited that I may potentially start nursing school in just a few months! Just want to say good luck to everyone! We have all worked so hard to get here!

Question for those of you who have received a transcript eval-

Does it says "At least one requirement has not been satifised" on the top of your eval? I'm wondering if that just means I have not taken all of my prerequisites yet.

Congratulations on your great numbers.

I received my transcript evaluation a few weeks ago and the first line in column 1 is "All requirements identified below have been met" and in each category there is an OK on the left reflecting the courses that satisfied that specific requirement.

I do think this means you are missing grades (are you are taking prerequisites right now?) but I would call them to make sure they are missing the "right"

things and confirm you are OK.

This is my biggest fear and the #1 reason why I wanted to get a transcript eval!

I got my transcript evaluation today!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!

I was so worried that I would be overlooked....

Mine also says that "at least one requirement has not been satisfied" and they circled the NO that is next to my philosophy and my Chemistry requirements. Good thing is that I am in progress of taking them this semester!

Funny thing about that....I do have a Chemistry class from 1991. They did not take it for the Chemistry requirement, but they did count it towards my electives :) Good enough for an elective, but not good enough for the requirement? Well, in hindsight, I am SOOOO glad that I signed up for this Chemistry class as a refresher, otherwise I wouldnt be eligible for consideration for Spring 2017.

Everything else looks good on it. My official stats are:

Overall Undergraduate GPA: 3.565

Nursing Prerequisite GPA: 3.890

Prerequisite Science GPA: 4.000

HESI composite total: 94.8

Critical thinking 910

So, at least I know now where I stand, that they accepted everything I needed them to, and that I have done everything that I can to assure I am competitive.

(I just wish I could go back to the younger me and tell myself to take college seriously...then I wouldnt have the 3.565 overall GPA...... I have a 4.0 since returning to college to do my nursing pre-req's)

To everyone who is awaiting a transcript evaluation, dont worry about it, they are getting to us :)

Hello everyone! I have been following this post for a long time and am finally deciding to post! I also applied for spring 2017!

I submitted my application around July and have received a transcript evaluation. My status on my UTH shows incomplete and awaiting transcripts from Lonestar (which is where I am currently finishing up a philosophy class) and I called and they told me it would continue to show incomplete only because I was currently enrolled and taking pre reqs that are required of the nursing program and that everything was okay. I was just wondering if anyone else had that showing on their status and if it were normal or not.

good luck to everyone!

My status still shows incomplete as well because I am currently taking classes

futurehoustonRN: Thank you! I am still taking prerequisites, so I think that's why it says all requirements have not been met. I will double check in the morning, but I'm pretty sure that's why. It says "no" next to the classes I have not yet completed.
