Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

I applied to TWU , and UTA which has the next available start date for Fall '17, and I have entered the pre-Nursing program, taking their additional requirements (4 nursing classes) and my final pre-reqs.

It was really off the cuff that I applied, so I was not as organized as I should have been. I really want to go to UTHSC, however, if not accepted for Spring I will reapply and I have a plan for the next cycle of where to apply and what programs.

Yes, I went to MCC ages ago... Wow! Small world :) I grew up in a small town called Johnsburg (lived there until I married at 19) then lived in Wonder Lake, FoxLake, and now Houston. I miss back home, but much prefer the lack of snow here.

from reading your comments, it sounds like we have a lot more in common ... I also lost my dad at an early age, and took care of my mom after a stroke. I however, did not go to Europe (but wish I would have:)

Jen that's crazy! My brother used tolive in Johnsburg with his ex and her family!!! I went to Woodstock High School for a quick minute LOL

The only thing I miss, is the Christmas season back home, the combination of lights and snow... but I love Houston and wouldn't change it for the world...

If I do not get in for Spring, I will be applying for the Summer and Fall admissions as well as TWU for Fall.

I am having second thoughts regarding HCC, especially since I now have all my pre-reqs( well, after I finish Chem in December) for the BSN program. I think the quality of the clinical placements will be much better in a BSN program versus an ADN program. And my ultimate goal is a BSN, so why not go the direct route?

I have figured out how we can afford it with me only working parttime (or no time ;) which was another reason I had been leaning towards the ADN.

The only other program I have applied to is San Jac's ADN program. I was accepted, but after thinking about it, it really doesn't make a lot of sense for me to do a 2 year ADN program when I can get a BSN in 12-15 months through other programs. My ultimate goal is to become a CRNA, so a bachelor's degree just makes a lot more sense.

Now that I'm finishing up my pre-reqs this semester (micro & chem), I'll be able to apply to more programs. I'm considering Texas State, Texas A&M, and TWU. I'll have to take the TEAS which I'm not looking forward to lol

That is the worst case scenario though... I'm just praying that I can get into UTHSC and go forward with my plans starting in January. If not, I'll apply again in the summer and fall.

I do miss the fall season and the changing colors of the leaves

I'm in the same boat, I started going back to college during my last pregnancy, started my online summer classes from my hospital bed! My lower grades during this time really brought down my GPA so now it's 3.6 overall. I also didn't have my sights set very high in the beginning, but once the ball got rolling I got in my groove and found that I really love school. Got an A in my chemistry class during my last semester, really wish I could retake AP 1 and 2 bc I have B's but I think it wouldn't look very good to have a lot of retakes.

Has anyone heard anything from UT?

im so anxious.í ½í¸Ž

Not yet! but I was creeping on their Facebook page and I saw that they're having an event called "Admit Day" for Spring 2017 on November 4th... I assume it's a day for new students.... Could that mean that admission decisions will be out soon? I hope so! I have a feeling we'll be finding out before the end of this month!

Jeeez...reading that just automatically made my palms start sweating! I want to know but it also scares the bleep out of me!

People here don't comment a lot.

I'm too busy obsessively checking my emails for an acceptance or rejection to comment most of the time. ;)
