Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

you should consider starting with the LVN program, then go into the ADN, and then to the BSN. It seems like a lot of leg work but actually it ends up being pretty much the same. If you have passion for it, you should look into that route. some people are just not good test takers.

My hesi score were competitive enough. The issue is UT not giving the correct information. I am just frustrated to say the least. I am going to call back tomorrow hoping to get someone different.

@yellowroseTX - Thanks! I definitely will

I am sure they have tons of calls every day, so please make sure you don't stand out for the wrong reasons. They will have your file since you are contacting in regards to information, be calm and kind. Why don't you try emailing the department instead? at least you will be able to gather all your information and be straight to the point. I'm sure they will appreciate not having to research information. I know it's a lot of documentation for us to gather, I cannot imagine how much work they have to go through.

I completely agree with what you are saying. I have only called twice and both times have received a different answer. I am pretty aware of not pissing off the wrong people, so I am always polite; however, this is a forum where I feel comfortable venting to. We are all going through somewhat the same experience and anxiety I would say. I have already emailed about a week ago and still no response. I am just going to wait and give it a day or two before trying to contact them again. The ONLY frustrating thing is that each person there has a different answer to the same question being asked.

Having support from others going through the same process as you are is very helpful and can sometimes deescalate the anxiety and frustration.

Yeah, I've been frustrated with UTH as well... Over the summer I had a couple questions and both times I emailed I didn't get a response and had to track down someone else's email who then referred it back to the original person I emailed who finally got back to me... and with one-sentence, unhelpful replies. And that's the only contact I've had with anyone through this whole process. Everything is fine on my to-do list so that's okay but it just doesn't sit quite right. In contrast, I've also applied to UH's ABSN program and they've been extremely available, helpful, and communicative through the whole process. UT's still my top choice but it is definitely frustrating.

@Nurse2bkdoo I had a friend that applied, was accepted, and started at UTH this fall and she called them numerous times during the application process (I mean LOTS)! Just saying this because I don't think it will count against you any to call, those answering aren't those on the committees making the ultimate decision about acceptance. Just FYI to help put you at ease a little.

Thank you so much!

You're Welcome!

Hi Everyone! When will we find out if we were accepted or not? Looking back on different threads it looks like it took them about a month to find out. The sooner the better!!

We have a month to go (& that's minimum), so don't hold your breath waiting lol.

I have to agree that the application process is a bit frustrating- not knowing if you have everything submitted correctly, classes evaluated properly, etc. is very nerve-wracking. The inconsistencies in answers don't help either :(

For anyone needing information about HESI score submission, I wouldn't email... I emailed them a month ago with no response, so calling is probably your best bet! I spoke with someone over the phone who confirmed that my transcript/ HESI scores were submitted.

@wickedstgar21 - Question : Did you use the UT code for the HESI? I am seriously so over this whole process. The first time I called they said they would accept it as long as the stamp was before September 1 (UT deadline) and now the second time I called (today) they said that if they did not receive it at ut by September 1st, they would not accept it. Its total BS. I am so frustrated with this whole ordeal.

@Nurse2bkd00 I did use the UT code and I took it Aug 30. They told me last week they had them and they would update my account. I also emailed them with no response :( I'm just afraid of not been considered if my scores are not in my file. I will try calling again....
