Hello friends!

I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:

  • Current GPA -- science & overall
  • Requirements needed to apply
  • HESI test requirements
  • Applications -- status or general info
  • Acceptance!

A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)

I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!

Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?

Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!! :inlove:

Hey guys!

Quick question - what phone number are you using to contact UTHealth to ask about applications? And did everyone receive a transcript review? I haven't gotten one and I'm worried :nailbiting:

I haven't received my transcript evaluation either, I think those that have were the individuals that had their application complete well before the deadline (with some exceptions). I haven't called recently but when I applied for Fall admission the numbers I used were 713-500-2102 or 713-500-2108. Typically they'll transfer you if it's not "their department." Hope those help.

Hello guys,

I also took my test wayyy before i applied to UTH ( I took it on June 30 ). I submitted my applications on Agust 28 & it took them about a week to receive my Hesi score, way after the deadline of Sep 1st. It was a relief to see the Hesi score finally off my to do list. During that period of time, i called them several time to the point that the lady at admission remember my name lol.

So yes, from my conversation with admission lady, she advised that as long as you take the test before Sep1 & have the correct code for UT Health, they will be able to receive it and have it removed from the to do list, albeit slow, maybe a week or two.

Hey guys!

I'm relieve to say my account was updated and my HESI scores were added to my account

Now I guess I'll have to wait for the results...:nailbiting: this October for the first time I'll be truly terrified LOL!

Specializes in IMCU/PCU.

I have had quiet the opposite experience.

HESI was NEVER on my to-do list. I e-mailed several people and never got a response. I finally e-mailed the registrar (who had been very helpful with transcript issues) and she informed me there were 3 different HESI transcripts on my file. Not possible because I took the HESI only twice a couple of days apart.

The only thing I can think of is, I took the HESI back in 2012 when I applied the first time (didn't get in) and they still have that transcript. Buyt why would they consider such an old transcript?

Too many unanswered questions, too many unknowns. This is nerve wrecking.

AMCH, thank you so much for your words of encouragement! I so needed to hear that. Wanted to see if I could help with your recent post. So, you took the HESI once in 2012 and twice again recently? I went to the info session yesterday and they said that you can only take the HESI 2 times in a lifetime. They were very adamant about this. So, they still count the one you took in 2012 as your first attempt. Your second attempt is the one they're considering for Spring 2017. They will not take in to consideration your third attempt at HESI. Of course, that's if I understood what you were saying correctly. Hope that helps?

It's October! It's October!!! Only a few more weeks of waiting everybody!

(Side note: I think as the days aapproach the knots in my stomach are getting tighter and bigger, LOL)

Stomach in knots, I know the feeling! We could potentially find out within the next THREE WEEKS!

Yes, in the next 3 to 6 weeks we will find out what our fate for Spring will be.

I have to be honest, I am nervous that I will not get in.

I am also nervous that I will get in....nervous about the amount of work we will have, nervous about the amount of information we will be responsible for, and nervous about this next big step in achieving my goals.

I know it's hard to not be nervous, but you'll be fine! I, like you, just hope to get in. The rest I can handle!

I'm thinking it's pretty competitive for this round. Not many people are posting, but look how many views this thread has... I've watched it go from 8,000 views to almost 24,000 in no time :woot:

Anyway, if we get in, we'll have 2 months to get titers/ immunizations, CPR certification, financial aid, housing, supplies... the list goes on! Pretty crazy to me.

Since you mention titers and all those other lovely requirements, I thought I'd share some info I have on that. Since I was already accepted to HCC ADN program in the Spring, I'm already going through the titer, cpr requirements and such. All I can say is, start saving up! For the CPR certification, you can get it through a Groupon. I bought an AHA certified online course through NHCPS.com for $24, via Groupon. Also, I went to AnyLabTestNow.com for my titers. It was $200 for MMR Varicella and Hep B, and didn't need a doctor's order. I went to the medical center location mid afternoon on a Friday and was in and out in 5 minutes. Also, since I don't have insurance yet, I qualified for ASN (AdultSafetyNet) and got most of my other shots for free. [http://Http://www.houstontx.gov/health/immunizations/adultimmunizations.html] I did have to wait a bit, but it was worth it. I also needed a physical, and since I don't yet have a primary care provider, I got that at a CVS minute clinic. It was $89 but it was quick and painless. Hope that helps those of you who get accepted when the time comes. I know I was scouring all nurses for people's advice on fulfilling these requirements, so hope that helps someone. If anyone's seen better rates please share for everyone.

As for me I'm not expecting to get in this semester (although it would be a dream come true). I'm actually studying for the TEAS 6 to apply for TWU fall 2017. I have a better chance with TWU since I already have BS and they only look at the sciences GPA and Teas scores. I will also reapply for UTH summer and fall semester 2017 again too. In all, my body will be in perpetual nerve-wreck starting now:bag:...LOL!
