UTH Cizik School of Nursing Spring 2021 (Pacesetter)

Published

Hi everyone! I found this forum last night and figured I would create this for anyone who wants to discuss the pacesetter program for Spring 2021. The application deadline will be here before we know it! I will be taking courses at San Jac this Summer to finish my pre-reqs ( a lot of the unfortunately ). Hope everyone is staying safe and taking this time to prepare as much as possible. I had been volunteering at Methodist but unfortunately that has ceased for now. Post anything you’d like here!

Does anybody have information on how to take the HESI at HCC with ProctorU I can't find any information on the website. I just got an email from Prometric saying that my exam has been cancelled.

You email [email protected] to let them know you want to register for the HESI

they will send you the link to pay and then instructions on registering with proctoru

I had to email the testing center at HCC Coleman, and then they sent me the instructions for paying/registering for the HESI through ProctorU. Their email is [email protected]

So, I got the email from HCC about the HESI and I'm still a bit confused. It says to add your institution on the evolve website, I already have an account and I'm pretty sure I used UTH Cizik as my institution so I don't know where I can find that part and change it to HCC. Then there is the payment part there is a list of different tests to choose from HESI-ADN,HESI-LVN,HESI-HLAB and so on, I honestly don't know which on to choose. Also, if I take the test with HCC would II have to apply for HCC's nursing program, because I'm trying to do BSN. Also how will I be able to transfer the results to other schools.

You change your institution in your profile on elsevier.
you will do HESI-ADN (nursing) 1st time or 2nd time

you don’t have to apply to HCC’s program. You will pay to get a copy of your scores send to ut. And for every other school.

Hello, so now I'm on the ProctorU website and I'm trying to select the exam so since this is my first time taking it which option would I chose: A2 Admission Assessment-HP Admission Assessment w/CT (A2)-1st Time OR A2 Admission Assessment-RN Admission Assessment w/CT (A2)-1st Time?

It needs to be the one that says A2 Admission Assessment RN Admission Assessments w/ CT and if it’s your first time select 1st time if it’s a retake select 2nd time

Hi everyone, like all of yall I'm applying for the Spring 2021 semester. I took prereqs when I was going to apply to the BSN program at the University of Tennessee. I didn't finish them all because I moved to South Texas. I finished the science prereqs I was missing here and got accepted into the LVN program. I graduated from the program in December 2019. I was supposed to start the ADN program here but I am wanting to get my BSN at the Cizik School of Nursing. I took the HESI in April 2018 but I don't think it will still be valid for the application. I signed up for the information session on July 24 , so I can ask if it will be OK and if not so I can pray there will be a HESI exam date open so I can register. I'm not sure how to calculate my cumulative GPA and science GPA to know where I stand. In different circumstances, I would visit my counselor to help me figure that out. LVN school brought down my GPA quite a bit but I'm not sure if that GPA will get counted in or if it will only count my undergrad classes. I have seen the stats and know this a competitive program just by the number of people that get admitted and denied. Does anyone know what the average GPA that gets accepted or just any info on the program? I saw someone post that the Fall semester is the most competitive and that Spring is not so much but I want to be prepared. A lot of yall have such good grades and I don't know if I measure up.

Hey there! To calculate your GPA you’ll want to write down the grade you received for every required pre-requisite (required pre-reqs can be found here: https://nursing.uth.edu/prospstudent/BSN/prerequisiteguide.htm) and you can enter them into this website:

https://gpacalculator.net/college-GPA-calculator/

You will need to know what grade you earned and the number of credits for each course. That will be your cumulative (aka your pre-req GPA). You also want to do another calculation of JUST your science courses (including A&P 1 & 2, MicroBio, and Chemistry). This will be your sciences GPA. You can use the same website I listed above to calculate the GPA.

The average cumulative GPA for pacesetter program is currently a 3.5 (as listed on the UTHealth website).

Please know that I’ve looked at a lot of forum posts on here and have attended an information session and you absolutely should not be discouraged if you have a lower GPA or test score. It appears that the admissions process is very randomized to a certain point and there are people with perfect GPA’s and near perfect test scores who don't get in but others may have a 3.3 GPA and a high 80’s HESI score and get in the first time they apply.

Respond back if you have any other questions!

Oh WOW! thank You! I was scared to apply because I figured most people would have like a 3.8 GPA and I wouldn't make the cut. I don't have a high GPA since I didn't do great my freshmen year of college but I'm hopeful. Do you think they'll accept my HESI scores if I rested in April 2018? I know they expired this year in April but I know some schools sometimes let it slide since its not that big of a time difference.

Hi Guys I have applied to the fall semester and was declined. Now I’m just wondering if I should retake my HESI exam to get better scores or take another course to get a higher GPA. (I honestly think it was my HESI that was not high enough). Some of my Stats: GPA: 3.5 HESI overall score: 85. Science GPA: 3.0 (I wasn’t sure what was included in a science GPA: A&P 1 &2, micro, chem) but I do see that most of the choosing process is randomized so I’m debating on bettering my scores or just keeping them as they are while reapplying.

Hey guys! I initially scheduled my HESI with Prometric but it was canceled. I was trying to sign up with HCC for the HESI and the instructions were sent to me from [email protected]. I noticed some of you have taken your HESI with HCC. Do you guys mind telling me which sections were tested? I just want to thoroughly study the sections on it so that I am better prepared. Also, did you get to pick what sections you take or were they randomly assigned to you per the HCC criteria?

Evelyn, you should try contacting the UT Health Admissions Office to see if they would accept your expired scores. As far as I know, UT Health is very particular and has some strict policies when it comes to that type of stuff. You will have a for sure answer by contacting them and speaking to Joann Mendoza who is the program coordinator.
