UTH Cizik School of Nursing Spring 2021 (Pacesetter)

Published

Hi everyone! I found this forum last night and figured I would create this for anyone who wants to discuss the pacesetter program for Spring 2021. The application deadline will be here before we know it! I will be taking courses at San Jac this Summer to finish my pre-reqs ( a lot of the unfortunately ). Hope everyone is staying safe and taking this time to prepare as much as possible. I had been volunteering at Methodist but unfortunately that has ceased for now. Post anything you’d like here!

Hello,

Is the application on the UTHealth website the only one we have to fill or do we have to fill a NursingCAS and a ApplyTexas application as well?

Hey Jayda, I believe the only application we have to fill out is on the UTHealth website

Hey everyone! I was curious to see how many of you complete all of your pre-reqs before you apply, or if you still have a few to take while the apps are being considered?

Thanks! I'm excited about this journey!

Hey Cortney!

That is my concern as well. I did apply, but I’ve only completed 51/60 prerequisite hours, and I’m registered to complete the other 9 this fall. Unfortunately, 7 of those are sciences, which may hinder my chances even further. I have three young children, so I put off the lab portion of the sciences that needed to be done in person for as long as possible (I at least wanted to be done breast feeding LOL Pumping on campus didn’t sound fun :-)).

Even though my stats are what I’d consider competitive thus far, I’m worried that it somewhat lowers my chances as I’m assuming they’d rather take someone without the contingency of having to complete required courses, particularly sciences.

What classes are you still needing to take?

Hi Cortney!

I applied and I’m enrolled for intro to philosophy and statistics for this upcoming fall semester. Those are the last two pre-reqs I need. I just got my associates degree and completed all my science pre-reqs so I thought I was good. Unfortunately, I saw that statistics and philosophy were part of the pre-reqs which I didn’t have to take to complete for my associates. Nonetheless, I’m staying hopeful that those courses in progress won’t hinder my chances of getting in.

Hi Mandy! Stay hopeful! I heard with UThealth it’s pretty much the luck of the draw with getting in. There’s no set pattern of GPA, HESI scores, or anything they follow that I’ve seen as of yet. I have two small children as well and I’ve put my school on hold to dedicate time to breastfeeding and all the other demands of motherhood so I understand you so much. I don’t regret it one bit, but it makes me nervous because I know my journey through school has been a long and tough one. Even having to drop a whole semester of classes because I got hospitalized with my second baby in the beginning of my pregnancy. I’m afraid they’ll look down on me for having to repeat those courses especially since there’s no explanation for why on your transcripts LOL I think that’s what I’m most worried about now. Otherwise I’d say my stats are competitive as well.

Hi Mandy! So I went to a webinar that UT hosted last week Friday. And you do not have to have everything completed by the time you apply. However, they at least want you to have 40 hours completed and 8 hrs of the science prereqs completed by the time you put in an application. Additionally, they do look at your overall GPA and your science GPA. Hope all goes well and this helped

Thanks everyone for the input. It’s so competitive and I just want to get in so badly LOL.

By overall GPA do you mean all of your prerequisites or all of the classes you took in college?

Hey guys, I started my application, and I am currently stuck on the part where you manually insert your HESI Scores. I took my HESI with HCC via ProctorU and I used my HCC ID to sign up with them. On the UTH app, it asks me for a "HESI ID Code". (This is what it says on the app: "If you have already taken the HESI A2, what was your HESI ID number? Please enter HESI ID number with test scores below.") Can someone please tell me where I can find that? Thank you!

Hey there! I will be taking MicroBio and A&P II in the fall. In one of the information sessions they mentioned that they do NOT give priority to people who have completed all pre-reqs and that as long as you’ve taken the minimum for consideration, your application will be viewed equally to everyone else. Hope this helps!

Im curious to know whether if they look at honors. For example, Phi Theta Kappa & National Honor Collegiate in the transcripts. or does that even show up in the transcripts?
