UTHealth Cizik Summer 2021 - BSN
So, I’m not sure on the science GPA because when I applied I still have 7 outstanding science credits. I had one B and it happened to be in a science, of course ? Ugh. Anyway, my overall and prereq was something like a 3.96 and I got a 95% on the HESI.

The course evaluations are sent via regular mail, and not everyone gets one. There were those that got in for Spring 2021 that didn’t get an eval, and there were those that got in that did. So, I wouldn’t worry if you don’t receive one. Not sure why some do and some don’t. Also, I didn’t get any emails or other communication other than when I initially applied with the login information. The next email I got wasn’t until a couple of days AFTER my portal updated to “Conditionally Accepted” (due to outstanding prereqs).

If Summer is anything like Spring, they may start updating your portals (for approvals) March 20th-ish. For Spring, we were told we’d hear by 11/15; however, the portals started updating around 10/20-10/21. So, around that time you can start looking in to refresh the decision. Yeah, other than the initial email with my password/login information, I didn’t get any emails from UTH until a couple days AFTER my portal updated to “Conditionally Accepted”.

The long winded version, anyway ?

And by the way, that is absolutely NOT to discourage those that may have lower than a 3.3-3.4. You don’t know the applicant pool for any given semester. With all of the “factors” taken into consideration, it very well could be that someone with lower does get in. So, most definitely don’t give up hope if anyone has a lower GPA or test score. Hang in there. By the way, we were supposed to hear back on 11/15 for Spring ... and they started updating the portals on 10/20 or 10/21. An email wasn’t sent until a day or two later. I don’t even know when the decision date is for Summer, but if it’s March 15th, for example, they may actually update on the portal sooner (02/20ish if it follows the prior semester).

I don’t necessarily agree (although I don’t work there, so I can’t say with certainty :-)) and I’ll tell you why —- So, you’re absolutely right that there are people that get accepted with perfect scores and GPA’s across the board, and likewise, there are people with lower GPA/scores that get in as well (although, from those I talked to in the GroupMe last semester, the lower scores/GPAs were the exception, and by lower, I didn’t see any 3.0’s, but I did see a couple with a 3.3 -3.4ish for overall GPA). They’re not solely looking at the HESI score, prerequisite GPA, and science GPA... there are other “factors” (see link below, some don’t apply, such as the essay/interview as of course those aren’t applicable to this particular program.) They take prior degrees into consideration, difficulty of workload for prerequisites, previous employment history, ethnicity/race.. they list out several factors, so you could see someone with 4.0, but maybe they only took one or two classes a semester, etc., so they select someone with a slightly lower GPA that had a much tougher course load, for example. So, it’s difficult to say, but I don’t think it’s a “lottery”, in the true sense of the word. They definitely have a board that makes the selections. https://nursing.uth.edu/prospstudent/criteria-BSN.htm

They don’t send the transcript evaluation to everyone. There were several that got accepted in the Spring that never received one. I got one, but I had prerequisites that I had not yet completed. It seems most that received one, still had outstanding prerequisites. Either way, don’t let that deter you because like I said, some got it, some didn’t.

I’ve heard for past semesters, the total applicants was around 1200ish. Their acceptance rate is right around 10%, which I’ve heard is slightly higher during the Summer semester as less applicants. I know for the Spring, they actually offered seats to closer to 160ish I believe. Not sure if the same will hold true for Summer.

So, I don’t know the listed decision date for Summer, but for Spring the decision was supposed to come out by November 15th ... they started changing the portal for approvals on the 19th of October (I think, give or take a day).

Hi Alicia, Honestly, I’m not sure exactly what they’re looking for. Of course they look at pre-req GPA, science GPA, and HESI —- but they’re also looking at work experience, prior degrees, etc. There were several people who had 4.0’s across the board, or close to it, and scored high on the HESI, while others (based on the GroupMe of those applying for Spring that then ultimately got in), had closer to a 3.5ish (give or take), scoring in the 80’s on the HESI. So, I’d say you definitely have a shot. I know for me, I was worried I wouldn’t be accepted as I had only completed 9 of the required 16 science hours at the time of application (I know they say you can apply with 8, I just assumed they’d rather take someone without the contingency of having to finish them all before the program start date), but I was accepted. So, if you have any outstanding prerequisites at the time of application, I wouldn’t be worried about it or feel as though it will hinder your chances as long as the minimums are met.

Hi everyone! I figured I’d hop in here as I may be in class with some of you come May :-) (Hopefully all of you!) I was accepted for Spring 2021, but unfortunately I had major surgery 5 days before the semester started, so I had to defer until Summer. I won’t have to reapply as I already have a seat. Anyway, just wanted to say hello! And best of luck to all of you! By the way, since I know it will be asked (I was always curious, too :-)) ... First time applicant. Overall GPA 3.96 Prereq GPA 3.96 Science GPA —- Not sure, I didn’t look to see how they calculated it. I’ve only ever received one B in my college career and it was in Chemistry :-P So, the science GPA is less than my overall. HESI: 95%

Hey Cortney! That is my concern as well. I did apply, but I’ve only completed 51/60 prerequisite hours, and I’m registered to complete the other 9 this fall. Unfortunately, 7 of those are sciences, which may hinder my chances even further. I have three young children, so I put off the lab portion of the sciences that needed to be done in person for as long as possible (I at least wanted to be done breast feeding LOL Pumping on campus didn’t sound fun :-)). Even though my stats are what I’d consider competitive thus far, I’m worried that it somewhat lowers my chances as I’m assuming they’d rather take someone without the contingency of having to complete required courses, particularly sciences. What classes are you still needing to take? Mandy

I had to email the testing center at HCC Coleman, and then they sent me the instructions for paying/registering for the HESI through ProctorU. Their email is [email protected]
