UTH Cizik School of Nursing BSN Pacesetter- Fall 2019

Published

Hey everyone?!

Just wanted to start a forum to see if there are any other nursing student applicants for the Fall semester? I just applied, although, I know I will not get a response until beginning of April. I was so excited since I just finished my HESI. I had to retake it since I did not take Vocab. the first time I took it? . Anyways, I really pray I get in for August so I can get started and not need to take any additional classes for other schools. My friend got in for Spring 2019 and she is loving it. I have really been fighting to get here for a VERY LONG TIME

I really can't wait. Good luck to everyone! ?

For the CPR, is it CPR for Healthcare Providers BLS? Thanks

For the immunization, do you know any places for affordable vaccinations? Thanks

Yes! You need the BLS one!!! And i don't know any. I got mine done at Personal Lab Services here in Houston but I'm not sure if they are considered affordable.

I just look up the prices at Personal Lab services and the prices are lower than at other places i was before ( like HEB, Wallgreens, and others). I am going to do mine at personal lab for sure.

Tell them you're a student!!! They'll give you a student discount!!! You don't have to show them proof or at least when I contacted them I asked if I had to show proof and they said no but I would still check!!!

For those or us still waiting for our answers, here's to hoping tomorrow will end our waiting ??

Is anybody going with the school's health insurance? I don't have coverage right now and prefer to have it added to my tuition.

Hey! I'm also a J1 at UTH. The enrollment process takes about 1 to 3 knths depending if you have your Hep B series done or not because that one takes a while to complete and then you have to wait a couple of weeks (about a month) to get your Hep B titer. Personally I already had Hep B done and started doing the rest on the last week of Feb and i finished all of my vaccines and titers by the first week of enrollment so middle/late of April. As for titers, yes you do them on your own. You can go to your primary health provider if you want or go to the school's clinic with your insurance and they'll do your immunizations. You can also go to other places to get them done for a small price. Don't worry too much about getting them in before the due date, they will work with you if they see youre doing them!!!

For the CPR you can do it in one day in just make sure it is a hybrid class OR in person but not online. For the background check, you can pretty much do it when youre traveling? Basically you fill out the application for it and then pay and they send your background check to the school so you don't need to be here in the U.S. The drug screening i suggest you fill out the application as soon as you can because you pay for it and it takes about 2 weeks for the company to get back to you and give you a list of locations you can get it done at and then it takes some time for them to screen it and send your results in to the school.

Thanks for replying me, I really appreciate it ?

I have the school's health insurance!

Those who are already in the Nursing school, do we have to retake MMR, TDap, Varicella, and Hep B? I received all those vaccinations when I was an infant, so does that count? Nevertheless, I will do the titter tests for Hep B, Rubella, Varicella, and TB Skin test as they require it. Just in case if I am not immune, I would have to start the vaccinations all over again and I am pretty sure they won't be completed before school starts, so would I be fine or they won't let me enroll for classes unless all series is completed? Thanks in advance!

Does school's health insurance cover immunizations at the school?

Basically after you enroll in your classes you're not asked at that moment if you have personal health insurance or if you're gonna use the school's insurance. Closer to the end of enrollment you're asked that and by then Ms. Haimour aka the person in charge of our immunizations is checking we are on the track of getting them in asap. I enrolled in it as soon as I could and I still don't have coverage right now. My health insurance plan starts in June 1 and this is the second week of school for us and basically you need most of your immunizations in so Ms Haimour can take off your immunizations hold on your account or you can't register for classes (although she will take your hold off if you are really close to completing them by the start of the semester). Does this make sense?

From what I understood for another nursing school app, I needed titer results for ALL immunizations. I knew I received MMR when I was an infant, but my titer actually showed I was no longer immune so I had to get the doses again. TDAP is also required if you haven't had one in the last 10 years, per the other school. Hep B isn't always given at infancy either. My primary physician did all of my titers for me and I was able to get MMR and the shorter two-dose Hep B(rather than 3 dose that takes 6+ monthe to complete) all done at Kelsey Seybold.

Basically since you have all of those done you can do your titers. But if your titers say you're immune but you have low immunity Ms. Haimour told us you could do a booster for those in which you have low immunity in and do your titers AGAIN and to show you have high immunity OR you could do the whole series again. I had my Hep B done as a kid too and I just went straight to the titer and came out immune.

If you had to restart your Hep B series for whatever reason and you know it won't be complete by the first day of classes do not worry!! You can contact Ms. Haimour or she will contact you and you guys can go over your problem and like I said before if she sees youre doing them and all before the due date but won't finish in time she will work with you!!! You will just have to submit the paperwork as soon as you finish them though or she will put a hold on your account. Also for the fall you guys need your flu vaccine so don't forget that one! (Although don't get it yet since they new one isn't out yet and we were told it would come out middle/late August)
