Alas! Here I go again! This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!
Oh..forgot to mention. Skim through the book, but focus on her lectures. Sometimes the book and her lectures dont match (unless she has accommodated for this). Her blog gives you some ideas on how her questions are formulated. Get together and form study groups. Quiz each other on the drugs. The test are multiple choice. Pretty much all the answers might be correct, but one will be the BEST answer. You definitely need to critically think each question. That's why is so important for you to know how the drug works in the body.
Sorry for the multiple post. I just remembering things as I write. I dont think it was big on the first test, but in the following (once is gets more complicated), know the side effects (remember what I said how it works in the body?). She loves questions about "a pt is vomiting and you check the blood levels and the pt/inr is x.x. What is the cause?" Sometimes she might throw a "curve ball" and try to confuse you. Just stick to the basics (just like your ABC...which will teach you what is the most life threatening symptom).
I truly liked the class. Hard as hell, but you will learn A LOT. I would love to have her again for a future pharmacology class.
Ok, I am stressing even more now...and you all in the course with me, please private message me - I don't know how to private message on here...I am somehow missing how to do that!
Thank you EMT2BLS for all your help and should you remember anything else, please feel free to share, share, share...I am a firm believer that in education or the real world, if you don't know the answer, you need help or you hold the information - asking and sharing is the key to everyone's success.
Is anyone in the Pharm. 3365 that started 9/12? I am so confused. I have been regsitered for the class. It showed up in my Blackboard last week, then disappeared. Then they posted a message stating it was a mistake. Then it never reappeared Monday (the start date). I kept checking my email but got nothing. I ordered my book last week and there was a note when I ordered it that the class starts 9/26. THEN today I randomly go into Epic which I have no current classes in, and there it is with a welcome showing it started 9/12. I guess this is typical unfortunately with UTA at this point. ZERO communication about the change in format, starting date, etc. I am so aggravated at the fact that they could not even send an email. I have been at this school over a year now and it seems to get worse as time goes. It was not this way when I started. Anyone else had this problem???
@ShellyE, Your irritations are noted and well deserved. UTA has driven me crazy these past few months. Just yesterday I received an email from my advisor telling me that I had not finished Patho or Pharm and without those classes, I wouldn't be eligible to apply for Spring 2012. I almost lost it !!! I sent her an email with my enrollment info for Patho and Pharm and with specific permission granted by the Dean to take both of those classes at El Centro. I've never been so happy to get something in writing in all my life.
That makes it TWICE now that they have tried to throw out my application on a technicality. I can only imagine how many people really do have their applications thrown out because they failed to answer every question exactly as UTA wanted or failed to respond to one of UTA's requests for more information immediately.
They still won't tell me my rank, but I did get written confirmation that my application has been processed and is complete. Thank goodness !!!
Hang in there.....we are all in the same boat :)
Hi everyone! SOOOO sorry for not checking in. I had family come in from overseas for a week (not the best time, clearly, but what can you do???) I tried to get ahead on work before they came, but I am taking 4 classes and I ma lucky to get everything done by the due date, much less even try to get ahead! They left this AM and I have had my nose in books all day and will tomorrow as well.
I am barely keeping up, but I am holding on to A in Micro by the hair on my chinny chin chin. Patho and Pharm....hmmm...lol...no clue, but they are high b"s I think right now. My brain is fried. Believe it or not, Med Term is my worst grade! It's the easiest out of all of them, but I know it is because I am not giving it as much focus. Her tests are not difficult really, but VERY short time allotted--30 minutes for 50 questions. You have to know our stuff for sure. I have more difficulty with getting completed int he time allowed than with the knowledge needed for the test.
katybusymom--I will definitely shoot you an email tonight or tomorrow.
cha1--yeah, I think she mentioned that in the syllabus, but I still don't think it is really fair. How do you account for any possible errors in the questions or grading if you can't see it? I was a teacher for 5 years, and I can assure you, I made errors in answer keys or question wording sometimes. Her class, her rules, I get it, but I don't think it is fair to the students. We shall survive somehow though! :)
I have just started considering this school for fall 2012----can someone please tell me---do i need to complete the following before applying or even starting the upper division of this program?
1) Introduction to professional nursing, 2)Pharmacology for nursing 3) Pathophysiologic processes: Implications for nursing.....these courses are not offered where i live.
If i have to take these courses at UT arlington....does that make the program completion longer for me?
Thank you...

Those classes need to be taken prior to start your upper division classes. These classes can be taken online, so as long as you have internet connection, you should be ok. Depending on the number of credits you already have, yes it may take you longer to be eligible to apply to the college of nursing.
@katybusymom:
I applied for the fall 2011 start date, and was written the same email, but mine said that I had not completed three of the four science courses. I emailed her back within 5 minutes of the email arguing that I had completed all 4! it took a week for her to do some digging to where she found an unopened transcript in my file with those 2 science courses on it. she then told me that my application would be processed for spring 2012 (not fall 2011) and I again emailed her regarding this mistake. although she said she just had gotten confused and made a typo, i truly believe that I got "waitlisted" for both programs for fall 2011 because of the mistake made by the nursing program. it had been almost a month until I got the full reply that I was "being processed for the fall 2011" start date. Im convinced that these advisors are so overwhelmed with the amount of applicants that they throw out applications for any reason they can find to make their decision much easier. I am anxiously awaiting my reply to both programs at UTA because its obviously my number one choice, and I emailed my advisor and she told me that letters were "hopefully" going out by mid-november. ughhh. SO late I already have been accepted into the CCCC nursing program (although its an ADN program, not BSN) but at this point im ready to just start already and get down to it! goodluck to all! cant wait for those letters!!!!

I'm in there too!
I am very concerned with the straight exams and no other criteria for grading but I know we will be ok...I am trying to convince myself of that actually...lol
There is so much info in each chapter it is a little overwhelming!
I am just going through every link and printing out things like the drug template and anything else I can see needing to refer back to...just praying!!
We definitely will be busy over the next 12 weeks...feel free to PM me too...we can be each others encouragement! I'm somewhat anxious to see the 1st exam..just ready to see how those are set up. Good luck!
