UTA FALL 2012
Thank you! I just know how frustrated I was when applying and if I can help eleviate even a little frustration, it's worth it! I will tell you that grades are important, but as I mentioned before, being partnered is a huge help (should your grades dip a little)...the best thing is to have a back up plan and apply for several programs. As for Pharm - I can't really advise you on how to study/prepare for that course, except to say, that in any job, you utilize and access resources...you may want to have some resources you can utilize if you need them... :thankya:

Don't feel naive, that's really why this website exists, to answer questions and discuss things... There was so much I didn't understand when I got started. 1) Yes, it is true that in the ACADEMIC PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM, students who work with a partnered facility are typically selected first...that's why the facilities are partnered with UTA. However, there are several non-partnered students who get selected too, so don't let that dash your hopes. Just know that to be selected over a partnered student you need to do very well in your pre-reqs. 2) I think you can call the number on the UTA Academic Partnership website and they will give you a list of the hospitals currently partnered with UTA. Keep the faith and keep focused, it truly is worth it!

UTA FALL 2012
If you consider rejection letters including those who do no meet the requirements or clearly do not have a competitive GPA, then yes, I would venture to say that those folks would get their letters first. I will say that in this semester's group (who received lettes this past Fall) that was the case, more folks knew they weren't getting in than those of us who were told we did get in. Here is my small slice of sanity / advice. Do not get bogged down in the logistics of whose letters go out first or when. You will drive yourself bonkers! If you don't believe me, look up the thread for UTA SPRING 2012, I and others have a gazillion posts re: just this... we practically went insane over when letters were going out and to who and when...it got a little crazy...haha.. Keep the faith and keep focused.

UTA FALL 2012 AP-BSN
Hi everyone! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing! It's hard to imagine that we are one weekend away from finishing our first clinical rotation and 4 weeks away from finishing our first semester! I am happy to say we have completed one course, Health Promotions! I'm glad to see everyone is still chatting and encouraging each other...you can do this! It truly is a lot of fun and an amazing journey. I think the best thing so far are the folks I am with in my cohort, we are like a huge family and we encourage each other and help each other everyday. So, when you get accepted, know that you will have others in the program with you that you can encourage and help and they will do the same for you. If anyone has any new questions or anything I can try and help answer, please let me know. I know when I was going through the process and orientation and even getting started I had a ton of questions. None are too silly or redundant...so ask away!

UTA FALL 2012 AP-BSN
I honestly couldn't tell you about Fall vs Spring, but I will tell you that you would be better off getting partnered...if even part-time or per diem, I dont think there is an hour minimum considered, you just have to be employed.

KBC123 I would recommend you go to the UTA SPRING 2012 forum and read the posts there...there is a lot of information from a lot of us on GPAs, Partnering, etc. I will tell you to expect the unexpected. To truly be competitive, you want a high GPA and if you are partnered, as you will read - you stand a much better chance of getting into the academic partnership BSN program. Hope this helps...

UTA FALL 2012
I am using the e-books for my first semester...I'll update you all on what I think of them at end of the first 14 weeks. I will tell you out the gate that so far I love them. There are approximately 12 or so books for this semester (7 or 8 of them are electronic) so you can imagine how nice it is to not have to lug all of those around to a coffee shop or work or even at home. I simply pull out my ipad and read. Elsevier uses pageburst for your desktop and vitalsource bookshelf for your iphone and ipad - the apps are not as friendly as ibook, but you can highlight the text and the books are downloadable to one desktop and 2 devices I think, it may be 2 desktops too... so you don't require internet to read. Unfortunately only the non-downloaded versions translate highlighting..so, you should find your mail device or desktop and try to do all your highlighting there.. I am learning that I am only using my ipad as my main "textbook" and will utilize the online versions or my iphone strictly for reference.

UTA FALL 2012
Hey guys and gals...just stopped in to read some of the forum postings... Those of us starting on Jan 23 are gearing up to get going... As promised, I want to try and share some random facts and thoughts for all of you that are going to be applying and hopefully starting in the Fall 2012 (I know you are all going to get in - thinking positive helps - look at my frantic thread postings in Spring 2012 haha)...I always thought information is power and knowing everything you can helps, even the littlest detail to someone is huge to someone else...so... Once accepted - there is a lot of work to do to get "cleared" for registration (Immunizations, back ground check, drug test, an online orientation course, etc.) - everyone attends an in-person orientation (in their own areas DFW, Houston, etc) and it is an all day thing and jammed packed with fun facts and information, it's almost surreal to sit in the room with 100 folks, many of whom have communicated on this site, encouraged and given advice on this site...so please know the value of sharing and communicating with each other here. I went into orientation and "knew" several folks - just from here...it is amazing! The books cost atleast $800-1100 dollars...prepare for that. Scrubs and lab coats, software and PDA - get you an ipad2 or iphone - they are the best, the most compatable and are required (the pda/spartphone is required). I have an ipad2 and the ebooks work great so far, have been exploring them and I know a lot of folks had wished the had gotten a ipad or iphone prior to getting accepted because of all the costs to getting started for the semester and many devices don't work as well as apple (I think droids are a proving a little more difficult to use). Please feel free to ask whatever you like...I think one of the things we lacked in the UTA Spring 2012 forum was folks blogging as they went through the program...after seeing the schedule - I now know why...BUT, I am going to do my best to periodically post and if anyone has questions, try and answer them where I can and to the best of my knowledge...keep the faith, you will get in, work hard and everything will fall into place!!!

UTA Spring 2012
I did...I apologize, pretty much all of us on here are AP-BSN (from scratch nursing students)....totally forgot there is the RN-BSN model...and you even wrote it in your post...dang selective reading...haha
-
UTA Spring 2012
Congrats on getting accepted into the pre-nursing area. I presume you already know you have to apply again for the actual nursing program. Also, a suggestion would also be looking into renting your textbooks, there are several sites - you can just do a search. Honestly you will not crack the tech writing or professional nursing books again once you finish the class. Again congrats and good luck!

UTA Spring 2012
@cmapes - I am with you... I am sure we will both get in this semester... I just wish they would get to it already...haha. But the wait will make the news even sweeter... No worries about the new to blogging thing...we all started somewhere...the good thing is - you found this forum. I cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for all the folks on here that have posted their journey, successes, frustrations and heartbreaks during this process. We have all laughed and screamed and vented on here - about our classes and instructors and really everything. I think it has immensely helped us all...so again, welcome!! POSITIVE THOUGHTS - WE WILL GET IN, WE WILL GET IN - IN THE SPRING, IN THE SPRING..hehe
