UTA AP BSN program Fall 17

Published

So I'm trying to see anyone is going to apply for UTA's AP BSN program the fall of 2017. I have been following threads and trying to get some information about how this program is set up. I did my application to the school last year for the Fall of this year. I'm trying to knock out my science classes, but I have withdrawal from my biology class 4 times and Im wanting to take my chemistry over the summer. Possibly doing my other 2 sciences with UTA. I haven't taken the Hesi A2, I plan to take that around the Fall. So, I just like us to update with each other and encourage each other to get into the program. I would do my stats, but I haven't taken gotten them yet. As soon as Im finished, I will post them. Everyone is free to post theirs

No it is not required, however partnered applicants are given an extra "bump" if you will.

I'm still contemplating about taking it same time. I'm really leaning on taking them both so I can have a summer break "just in case" I get accepted for the fall. I have only read patho syllabus and other info. Doesn't seem as bad once you get on a groove for the class. Pharmacology is what I am really worried. Not sure if she provides study guides, and already trying to buy her books and confusing evolve requirement is a mess! After purchasing it twice, she then says it's not a requirement. Ugh!! Now I have to see if I can get a refund from Evolve.

Goodluck on her class!

Hey good luck, I posted a discussion on the board in Patho for a study group, you can find me there. Also, Pharma is open now too, and she also has study guides, and it is a considerable amount more material. But I think a lot of people are taking them together, we even have the same coaches for both classes. I'm actually pretty excited. Good Luck!

Taking patho, gen Chem 1, a&P 2 together? Bad idea???

Have you taken the pre-requisites for Patho?

Do not take Patho if you do not have the sciences done. This is where all the information becomes integrated. You hinder yourself going in and not having the background that is expected. From the course material, the professor will not baby anyone, she expects you to go in knowing AP I & II, Micro, and Chem.

I have only taken half the science prerequisite because my bachelors didn't require us to take those. However, I have taken ochem1&2, biochem, neuroscience classes, etc.

Yes, but these classes are essential to Patho. Patho is not a class about memorization, it's critical thinking and applications, that being said AP I and II and Micro are essential to the course. If you have OChem, why are you taking Gen Chem over?

With all the coursework you have had (wait did you do Neuro as a Psych major? I was Neuro major on the Bio side, almost all my classes were in the sciences), it is doable, I think to take Patho without those classes, but certainly not with all of those classes. It's really challenging on it's own, and without the appropriate background (Neuro will help in pharma but NOT in Patho), it's going to be painful. I took Cell Bio and histology, and I still see a lot of gaps in my knowledge base.

Healthcare studies major so I've taken psych classes, neuroscience, business, health related, etc. I have to retake Chem to get a better grade. I took it yeeeeears ago and slept through it. Now I kick myself. However I have used the stuff from gen Chem over and over so I'm confident it's an easy A. Anyways, I'm taking your word for it and will not be attempting that class until I've finished all preqs. I'll be taking it alone as well. Now with pharm...do you feel that's another do it at the end by itself type of course or is it doable with one other class? Thanks!!

What other class would you take Pharm with? Callinshotz

SO, from what I have seen of Pharm, I think it's doable with another course. Again I started Pharm and Patho today, so I have only had about a week with the syllabi and materials. I think anyone with a Neuro background, can get through Pharm. Then again, I have already taken Psychopharmacology, because a lot of Neuro is based of the research that leads to psychotropic drug advancement. I would not take it with that many classes though. This semester I have my 3 nursing reqs - Med Term (3 days in, halfway through, but I speak Greek, and I am fluent in Ancient Greek and Latin so it's a piece of cake), Patho, and Pharm. They used to tell everyone to take Patho and Pharm seperately. This semester it seems a lot of the class is taking it concurrently, and I believe they have adapted Patho somewhat to make the material easier to manage. I'll let you know in a few weeks after I have had a couple of quizzes/exams how it's going. Both professors say that the majority of information is in the first 4 weeks, the foundations. That being said I took 5 classes last semester and received a 4.0. (had two 8 week classes, then 2 8 week classes, and 1 throughout the 16 weeks).

Are you going to be applying for Fall or Spring?

I am planning to take pharm with AP1. Which is a actually another retake for an A.

How many courses are you retaking?
