UT houston spring 2010 hopefuls

Published

hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.

Can't wait to hear from others.

Specializes in none as of yet, hoping for ped oncology!.
CJBARNES- They replied to my post on the thread that stated they were having interviews. Go read......they are in fact getting interviews for UT Spring...they were waitlisted from Fall 09. I am curious to know how many slots they will be filling

Well that is total crap IMO! The information session I attended and the email I got both stated that they would not be doing any interviews until after all applications were received in September. :angryfire

Still, I did notice (re-read the thread) that none of them have received a call back yet, so maybe the admissions committee is planning to give all of us equal consideration. I think it would be unfair to offer them a spot without reviewing our applications at the same time. Not that anyone asked me or anything haha!

Hi guys, Im new this site and i am actually applying to UT-Houston for the fall of 10 and will be taking the NET test next month and was wondering if i could know what all sections do i need to really study and if there is science and grammar on the NET....ANy thing would be helpful....thanks

I have a 97 on Math. and a 67 on reading so I have heard that you wont get an interview without a 70 in both sections. I am going to keep trying for a higher Reading score although I am at a wall. I will be contacting UT tomorrow to ask about the NET extension I heard about

Here is a copy of my post from a few weeks ago when I took the NET. Hope it helps! Also, I took mine at Norris, so it was the paper version. I understand it differs slightly if you take the computer version at Pearson Vue. Emag could tell you what is different about it.

So I took the NET, and here is the breakdown. The math part was not hard at all, there is nothing more complicated on it than basic algebra. There are a LOT of percent and fraction problems, so if you haven't done them in a while, I suggest you brush up.

The reading and comprehension part wasn't too hard. Make sure you read the question carefully, as it asks for purpose, theme, and main idea, all of which can be different for the same paragraph. The beginning of the test is a one minute portion in which you read for one minute and then note the line number you got to. After that, you can finish reading the selection and answer the questions. I did not get finished with the whole selection in the one minute (which I think is impossible) but after the 1 minute portion I had more than enough time for the remaining reading selections and questions, and I was even able to go back and double check my answers, but I am an admittedly fast reader. However, I don't see that anyone should have a problem finishing at least.

The science section was harder than I expected. It is called basic science, but the questions are from A&P I for the most part, so if you haven't taken it, be prepared to be confused. It doesn't count towards your score, but I don't know if the college sees it or not.

The written expression portion was mostly subject-verb agreement and spelling, with some pronoun questions.

The rest of it is for your own personal knowledge, such as the stress profile, learning style, and testing skills. Nothing special there.

All in all, it was not too bad, and certainly not as horrible as many have made it out to be. I will say this though, there were several people taking the test with me whom frankly, I hope do not make it into nursing school, or I fear for our very lives. That sounds harsh, but when you can't understand the directions on how to write and bubble in your name, I don't think nursing is for you.

The only thing that is different regarding the POearson Vue computer based test is it is more expensive. You dont have the times reading section, but everything else is to the T the same. Same reading passages same questions etc. I preferred the computer one

excuse all my typos...was in a hurry

Hey Emag, did you hear anything about UT NET extension? Especially taking it through Pearson view?

waiting on them to reply to my email. their phone was busy all day. i will let yall know ASAP

I know some people are still trying to take the NET exam by the deadline...I just wanted to say I took mine at Baylor University in Waco, it was computerized and only $40, and I scheduled it three days before I took the test. They offer it most days of the week, once in the morning and once in the afternoon each day, and there were only three of us taking the exam that day, so it wasn't hard to get a spot. I emailed UT beforehand to make sure this was acceptable, and I was told yes, as long as the scores are sent to them in a sealed envelope from the school. If you're still trying to take the exam you could look in to other schools that are giving it so you don't have to worry about the deadline, but obviously CHECK WITH UT TO MAKE SURE THEY WILL ACCEPT THOSE SCORES! Hope this helps someone!

Hello all

i took my NET again. got 67 on reading comp.

request to all.

could you guys please post your reading comp score. it will give me and others good idea about what the cut off will be for this admission term.

Thank you.

I am stuck at a 67 too...have taken it 4 times and used every study guide known to man....i feel your pain. I am a straight A student. I think I am reading way too much into it because dummies dont have 4.0's.....I am over thinking it. Oh and I have gotten a 97 on math...go figure. I have quit stressing over it and now that I did that watch me do good next time

i got a 100 on the math section, and an 85 on the reading. does anybody know if they consider the science and grammar portions at all?
