Anyone here applied already?
Have you taken the NET exam?
Hi All!
I would just like to say kjenn21 I am not real sure but I think I am the one you are referring to when you said what you did about the essay from last year. I applied to the Spring 2010 semester at UTHSC and did not get in. I am back this semester to do it again as was a couple others on Monday the 8th when I had my interview. I was a part of that forum and some of you are correct, the people for that semester were VERY supportive of each other and they all were very helpful. I have been following this forum and I have to be honest, I am floored at the lack of support. We should all help as much as we can, that is what this forum is for otherwise why even come on here. I had a friend of mine apply for the spring semester as well and I helped her with as much information as I could and she did get in. I knew all the questions, my interviewer was the student advisor for a very good childhood friend of mine in 2004 and I knew BOTH essays ahead of time. The point I am making is I knew everything going in to my first interview and in the end it did not make a difference. Knowing everyone's GPA, everyone elses experience or even the entire process does not change that the only person you are up against is yourself. None of that changes your GPA or Net Score. It is all up to you to sell yourself and apriljoy is right, you can not fake compassion or being real. Let me tell you what I have learned from my disappointment of last November....This is everything that you could want to know, the essays are the EXACT same ones that the Spring 2010 UT hopefuls had...the Aids and the brain dead 16 year old, read in that forum they are both listed. The questions that are asked by the interviewer are from a sheet of paper they use and they are these. 1.)What sets you apart from the other applicants 2.)Can you name a time in which you had to show compassion 3.)How do you handle disappointment 4.)What did you make in your A&P classes 5.)Are there any D's, F's, or W's on your transcript. They may ask you questions personal to your specific situation for instance. 1.)If you have kids, do you have childcare 2.)If you have a job do you plan to work (HINT, they don't recommend it) 3.)Did you go to school full time or part time (They like full time students this shows competency in handling the program). Now that I have said all of that, the interviewer DOES NOT have a copy of your transcript there in your folder. IF they ask you about your resume it will be more if you have medical experience or ever volunteered anywhere. AS FOR the essay, at the top of the essay it says that they are evaluating your writing technique and your critical thinking skills as you have quite a few of these types of questions on your exams in the program (Even in the first few weeks of school) Don't freak out, they aren't going to read them before your interview so you will not be questioned about your essay...(they simply don't have time). LAST, what happens once all the interviews are done, how does UT decide who is admitted and who is not? The million dollar question. Well, here it is...After all is said and done all the applications, essays and interviewers notes are gathered. Everything is presented to the Admissions Board (A board of people we never meet and they don't know us). Your interviewer is then questioned one by one about each person they interviewed...for instance, my interviewer will sit in front of that board of people (I have never met) will flash my transcript on a screen (this is the first time my interviewer will even see it) and they will one by one ask their questions and address their concerns (i.e. why did she withdrawal here, did you know about this grade or that grade) and my interviewer will say we spoke about this or that. They will ask about my NET score and she will be my advocate. ONCE THAT IS ALL DONE...they will make their decision based on the information she has given and what they see in my essay and on my transcript. Well, there it is, that is everything. I will say it again guys, I helped a friend and gave her advice when she asked and encouraged her the entire way and she got in, I did not and I hate to say it guys but I have wanted this since I was a little girl just as you all have but I would NOT do it differently, I would help her all over again. She is my biggest fan this time and she will continue to support me through this and that is someone I would want to know is caring for me if I ever got sick or my child was ever ill. I think everyone here has as good a chance as the next person and I hope all of you succeed and make it. I do hope that everyone realizes the reason we all wanted to be in the medical field, we all want to help people, to make a real difference in the world and to be a support system for those who need it. Up until now I can say I would be afraid to have a few of you as my nurse and I know that none of you want that to be the message you are sending in refusing to help one another. I believe in all of us and I know in my heart of hearts that you all do too. I pray for everyone of us to get in and change the world, we all worked hard, we all made it here and truthfully GOD will get me the rest of the way! Good Luck to all of you, I hope I have eased some of your minds and I want you all to be there next fall with me. I hope I did not offend anyone because it certainly was not my intention. God Bless everyone of you guys.
are you guys 100% sure its 150? i know they admit only 80 ppl, this semester its an extra 50... so that means only 130...
That's what the admissions lady said when we were in the elevator. 50 people in the new Pacesetters program and 100 to the regular program. Maybe they're accounting for people who will decline?
HOUSTON - (Oct. 22, 2009) - The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing is now seeking applicants eligible for admission to its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program to sign up for its new Pacesetters option.
A redesigning of the four-semester B.S.N. curriculum, the first three semesters in the Pacesetters program will be classroom, simulation and limited clinical studies. During the final semester, students will have full-time clinical rotations over 16 weeks.
This new concept, which is open to 50 B.S.N. students for fall 2010, is being developed by a task force chaired by
I hope I don't get in trouble for pasting this but this what it says on the website. I guess it doesn't really clarify so maybe I was just under the wrong impression. I hope it is 150. 50/50 chance that's much better odds.
Remeber that there are also ppl interviewing for the BSN Fast track program too. Last semester those ppl took spots in the generic program because fast track wasn't offered so this time they won't.
Also they told us last semester that they were taking 80 and they did, so if they are saying they are taking 100 (and that is what I was told too) and 50 for pacesetters then that is what they will accept. That is good news for all of us.
thanks sorinae! i hope you guys are right .. cause that is great news :)
and sorry if this is personal but why do u think u didnt make it in? you had all the info.... were ur grades not good? or net scores? i hope they dont analyze our transcripts that much :/ i have a couple of W's myself
Wow this forum is very different than the Spring 2010. I am a Spring 2011 hopefull and just wanted to add something. I know this fuss is about the ?'s posted but think of this...by seeking this forum and the information in it...we all show that extra effort to raise our possibilities of being accepted. Even knowing the GPA's and Net scores accepted gives us a lil bit of inside information that others do not have. It gives us more knowledge on if we need to retake courses, step it up, etc. Is it unfair...NO...we all want this just as much as the other. These essay questions were posted mths ago from different forums and those who used it are those who seeked it. If it were so secret...why would they continue to use the same ?'s. They want your answer and even with knowing the question no two answers will be alike, no matter how much is put into them. Good Luck to all...and I hope those who are accepted the best of luck both as individuals and as a team.
No, I have a good GPA, NET scores are fine...I was carrying 4 classes and still had to take my stat class which would have to be done in the mini term in order to be done to start the this January, it was a craps shoot on whether they would even offer it. When I interviewed she was skeptical that I would get in a stat class before the start of semester, if she subconsciously relayed that to the board then that could have been what swayed them. My interviewer from Monday thinks that is what could have done it. As luck would have it, I did get one and I was done by Dec. 31st but it is ok. Tell you the truth it helped me reanswer this time "How do I handle disappointment" LOL! When it is my turn then I will get in. I have a lot of people that are faculty, alumni and students at UTHSC-H right now that are pulling for me, so we will see. But don't worry, what affected my acceptance is not going to affect you at all, they may take a lower GPA over a higher depending on all kinds of different reasons. It is like genetics, all different combinations of people and circumstances. My friend got in with a 3.56 Science GPA and another applicant had a 4.0 Science GPA and didn't get accepted. It is all in the luck of the draw. Take a deep breath and remember right now none of us know and no decisions have been made so at least right now we all still have a chance.
Sorinrae-
Going into the interview the only thing I was really nervous about was talking about why I have so many W's (from over 5 years ago). The interviewer asked if I had any D's, F's, or W's and I told her I received all of those from over 5 years ago. She asked me how many D's and F's and in which classes but never asked or wrote down how many W's. I wasn't sure if this was a good or bad thing but now I'm extra nervous since it was posted that they will put your transcript up for the board to see while the interviewer explains what she was told. Now it's going to look like I was holding it back.. dangit! I had a bad couple semesters from a long time ago but have competetive Gpa's now. Hope this doesn't hurt me too bad.
Thanks for all the info though!! Very helpful!
yeah thats prolly the definite reason y u didnt make it last semester then :/ but u seem to have it all down now! u have really good odds especially with ur connections
okay and another question
do the 300 that received interviews for generic BSN only or does that include the accelerated?
No Worries, they only consider your recent stuff...a lot of ppl have to start over or have stuff from a long time ago, they know that. She probably didn't write anything down because they will be looking at your recent course work and what is relevant now. I have grades that I replaced when I retook courses that I took 15 years ago and they told me none of the stuff before my recent course work would be considered. So I would not worry about it. The board already has your transcript and they will know what is on there before your interviewer does and so now that you have told her, she will know what to say. So don't sweat it. It will be ok.

I was under the impression that 100 would make it with 50 of that making pace setters for a total of 100. If it is 150 that definitely increases the chances. I hope it is.
